WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said on Monday remnants of toppled President Saddam Hussein (news - web sites)'s government have coalesced into a "terrorist network" in Iraq (news - web sites), but rejected the notion that U.S. and British forces are facing a guerrilla war or are stuck in a quagmire.
Since when was defending your country a "terrorist network".

Six more American soldiers were wounded in Iraq on Tuesday and a fatal blast at a mosque fueled Muslim anger toward U.S. forces, all within hours of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld insisting Iraq was no new Vietnam. Three soldiers were hurt near Baghdad's university when a makeshift bomb exploded by their vehicle, a military spokesman said. Their Iraqi interpreter was missing. Bystanders saw troops drag four seemingly badly wounded people from the burning wreck. Three others were wounded in two separate grenade attacks.

Bush says to 'you know, bring it on!'
WASHINGTON - President Bush pledged Wednesday that the United States will deal harshly with those who attack American troops in Iraq (news - web sites), and said such violence will not undercut his resolve to keep Americans there until stability is restored.
"Anybody who wants to harm American troops will be found and brought to justice," Bush said at an impromptu news conference at the White House. "There are some who feel like if they attack us, we may decide to leave prematurely. They don't understand what they're talking about if that's the case."
Increasing attacks have killed 26 U.S. soldiers since Bush declared major combat over on May 1. On Tuesday, assailants traveling in a vehicle in central Baghdad fired a rocket-propelled grenade at a U.S. military vehicle, wounding three soldiers. Another grenade slammed into a U.S. truck on a road south of Baghdad, injuring three soldiers, one of whom died at a field hospital overnight.
"There are some who feel like that, you know, the conditions are such that they can attack us there. My answer is bring them on," Bush said. "We got the force necessary to deal with the security situation."

President Bush has used colorful language before to great effect, like, 'suck my cock you coke whore' and 'can't you keep your daughter sober bitch?', but he is taking some heat for his "Bring them on" challenge to Iraqi militants attacking U.S. forces, who he said were tough enough to take it. Even some aides winced at Bush's words, which Democrats pounced on as an invitation to Iraqi militants to fire on U.S. troops already the subject of hit-and-run attacks by Saddam Hussein loyalists and others

Enough already. I can watch CNN on my own. I don't need excerpts from a Bush basher cut and pasted on daily basis for all to read ... which apparantly no one is ... though I could be wrong. I get your point. It's just way played out.

Oh Donny Boy on Iraq-
"Is it an important thing to be doing? Yes. Is it tough? You bet. Are more people going to be killed? You bet. Does it cost some money? You bet. Can we tell the world or anybody else precisely what it's going to cost or how long it's going to last? No," he said.
Hey Don, are you an asshole going to hell? YOU BET!!!

"It'd be pretty stupid if I was killed after the war was over, wouldn't it?" -Sfc Troy Barlow, from the movie Three Kings.
FALLUJAH, Iraq - Another U.S. soldier was killed Friday.
I've been criticized for harping on the same shit. But the same shit keeps happening. How would you feel as a parent if your son or daughter died AFTER the war? And your president stated, 'Bring it on'.
I've read morale in the troops is low, they might be waking up to the fact that they were brainwashed. I'm sure they are very relieved they never faced any WMD, except WMD of friendly fire, but I'm sure they ain't liking it too much that they are not the great Western freedom fighters they thought they were.

Grumbling U.S. Troops May Face Punishment
WASHINGTON - The Army is considering whether to punish soldiers in Iraq (news - web sites) who griped about conditions there to a television reporter, a Pentagon (news - web sites) spokeswoman said Friday.
U.S. Death Toll in Iraq Surpasses 1991 War
Some soldiers from the 3rd Infantry Division complained to ABC-TV this week after their units were told they would be leaving Iraq soon, then had their homecoming postponed. One called for the resignation of Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld.
Criticism of superior officers is a breach of military rules. The Army will determine whether any soldier will be charged with breaking those rules, said Pentagon spokeswoman Chief Petty Officer Diane Perry.
On Wednesday, the commander of U.S. forces in Iraq said the soldiers' comments show the frustration of troops who are ready to go home.
"Every now and then we've got to look at our young people and understand why they said what they said, and then do something about it," said Gen. John Abizaid, head of U.S. Central Command.
He said it was up to the soldiers' direct commanders to decide if they should be punished.
"None of us that wear this uniform are free to say anything disparaging about the secretary of defense, or the president of the United States," he added.
Hmmm- says McCutcheon, at Tommy Martyn's house. I say, I wonder. If you wear the uniform, and die for your country, does that mean you don't have the freedom of speach?

"None of us that wear this uniform are free to say anything disparaging about the secretary of defense, or the president of the United States"
that almost seems like not even being able to have freedom of opinion.

The rules about not questioning superior officers are meant to uphold the chain of command in a military situation, as in "Soldier, get up that hill and hold posession of it until I give the order to fall back." "But sir, there's a thousand enemy troops running towards me." "Thats an order son."
It's not meant to rob those in uniform of their rights to an opinion about higher policy. When you take an oath to serve in the military, you voluntarily vow to take orders and place the judgement of your superior officers above your own. This is supposed to be for the greater good. As bad as war and battle is, it would be worse if every soldier made up their own plan and just decided their own course of action.
If these men are punished, it will be yet another example of how the current administration twists existing rules to squelch dissent, and make it seem as if they are popular and great for the future of America.
See, even relatively militaristic people don't like Rumsfeld, if I'm any indication.

I agree with you there mav, but if you still dont agree with your superiors and vocally demonstrate this, AND you still listen to their orders and fully obey them, why can you get in trouble for that?
