"I say violence is necessary. It is as American as cherry pie."

american as cherry pie? this guy doesnt deserve to be an american. this is fucking pathetic. violence is completely unnecessary, we live in a civilized modern world and we should learn to grow up. i dont think i will ever live to see world peace but it is a nice thought. people like mr. brown just prevent us from realizing this dream any sooner. bastard

change only occurs with drama, conflict.
i completely agree with this inspite of its absurdity.

True Rabbit, but you gotta think back to the culutural context of the times. Opression and racism that blacks felt cannot be truly understood by us now. I would have to put H Rap Brown and Eldredge Cleaver in the same category as John Walker Lindh and all the other unsuccesful revolutionaries in Africa, Middle America, and South America.
You have to assume that Mr. Brown felt some sort of negative element everday of his life to make such a bold statement. I myself have not, so yes, I have trouble relating to it.

I hate to say it, but I'm lucky. I'm white, young and I live in Wisconsin. The only thing to fear is women who don't have a clue and moldy cheese.

well i do agree with it but you have to realize the extreme mr. brown is taking it. it is unfortunate to have such violence in the world but indeed it does bring change, sometimes for the worse but also for the good. i really appreciate you guys making me see both sides. sometimes i just get in a certain mindset and get tunnelvision.

check out ovid demaris, "america the violent", for a neat theory of the history of violence in america.
ray brown's statement is right, i say. and mainstream assholes like charlton heston agree with him, i have to admit.
but in all fairness i need to say that america is the place where democracy, albeit with sometimes severe faults, has survived for over 200 years. give power to people like ray brown and i'll bet they will turn america into something resembling zimbabwe in a short time. his ass belongs in jail.

I think what H Rap Brown really meant was that violence is the only language that America understands.
Any other form of protest is seen as cutesy and non genuine. After all, Dr. King tried to do things peacefully and look where it got him... shot by a coward who never got caught.
So this guy, "who doesn't deserve to be american" was born into a world of hate and told to sit at the back of the bus and be a good boy and to uncle tom everyone.
I don't know anyone who could live through a life like that without resorting to violence. For instance I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth and I can't sleep at night because I want to throttle my computer science professor. If he made me sit at the back of the classroom on top of everything else incompetent he does it would be all fucking over for peaceful resolutions.

never mind it was James Earl Ray who shot Martin Luther King and he was arrested at Heathrow airport of all places.
Malcolm X's killers never were arrested.

I think the NRA has nothing to do with it. I don't own a television so I may be way off, but when was the last time you've seen the NRA advertise its club. Ask any American teenager what the NRA is and I'm willing to bet most of them don't know.
Television, on the other hand, is the true problem. When I was a wee lad I used to watch Elmer Fudd chase that fucking rabbit all the time in hopes that one day he was going to blow his head off. And a few nights ago while sitting at a bar with my buddy, there was a cartoon network show depicting scenes where limbs were being lopped, heads were being decapitated, and flesh was being ripped off. Needless to say through the gut aching laughter, I was shocked.

You really wanted Elmer Fudd to blow Bug's head off?
Even after the 'la di da da hocus pocus' bit with Dracula?
Even after the Bugsy episode?
If anybody deserves to get eaten its the fucking road runner.
