Well even though I wrote an awful lot of crazy shit here last night that I don't rememeber and had a hell of hangover today, there is one part I thought I posted that I can't seem to find now and that was that I was in a traffic jam Tues. night trying to get to school and I was in a bad mood already and I turned on the radio to hear some guy with a country accent talking...apparently he was somehow involved remotely with some folks in the Bush administration...I can't remember exactly how, some military connection or whatever. And some people in the Bush administration had claimed not to know him and Donald Rumsfeld said his claims were bunk whatever it was...and so this guy kept talking saying how disappointed he was that whether or not Bush was really aware of things going on in his administration, he obviously was not taking any action to get rid of people who had done damage to him, etc etc and at the end of this long anti-Bush spiel the guy admitted he had voted for Bush twice and was a Republican and man I was suddenly SO completely INCENSED and FURIOUS right then.
I mean I know this is what it will come to, that eventually we'll have to start looking these fuckers in the eyes that didn't know what we knew all along and facing up to the fact that they are on our side of the fence, now. And so in a way we should be glad they are because it means Bush's downfall. But personally I'd just like to do a lot of bodily harm to them. I'm bad about that. I'm really bad about excusing people who I feel should have KNOWN things.

(okay, well, arse, but you know I didn't spell it that way then)

In truth it really astounds me too that Iraq is really only the tip of the iceberg with this guy. But it's almost like the only thing worth talking about with middle America.

So anyway, the little I managed to hear on the radio that night (you can tell I don't read the newspaper anymore don't you? Sometimes I really think I miss the newspaper - I get newspaper cravings, my dad was a newspaper nut and my mom delivered them so newspapers are very addictive for me and actually I used to be a lot more sober in the days I read the newspaper and enjoyed it a lot but I just don't know how much I really want to know anymore)
Anyway the little I managed to catch on the radio that night was saying that in Congress the whole Iraq thing is really heating up, that the Republicans introduced a bill in reference to pulling out of Iraq, that Iraq's government has asked us to come up with a timetable. But the weird thing was it said that most democrats voted *against* this bill and I'm not sure why or what it's all about - they ran a speech from Dennis Kucinich which as we all know is a MAJOR lefty liberal and he was speaking out against the bill and I just don't really understand it all anymore. They had this guy from the anti-war movement talking saying we need to continue to have demonstrations and contact our congressmen/women or it's just not going to happen. But you know fuck! I live in Seattle, there's probably a demonstration every weekend here, but is it going to make a difference?

Maybe it's the same reason that the Reps wanted to go in their and 'kick ass' and the Dems didn't in then first place.
Leaving now would cause major bloodshed. Remember when Powell told Bush "if you broke it you bought it?" Well Bush shattered it.
What we need to do is to send Bush, Cheney, and Wolfowitz and all the other Rep assholes over there and let them be tried for war crimes by the new Iraqi government.
That way the new government would have some respect. Maybe enough to make a go of it.
Simply pulling out would cause massive civil war.
All the people who "trusted us" and joined the police would be shot... and possibly their families too.
This is why invading Iraq was such a MONUMENTALLY STUPID CRIMINAL thing.

Mexico abolishes the death penalty
Following approval by Congress to the necessary constitutional reforms, capital punishment was officially abolished in Mexico on December 9.
Prior to abolition, the death penalty was permitted in military courts. Well thanks for the bit of vindication! I really do feel better.
And as far as where this issue was heading last time I posted on this thread, I realized the errors of my ways too late only after I'd gotten very angry and made a big scene on the other board. But in a way I felt it had to be done. I wanted people who were from other countries to see me talking badly about my own. I needed to do it.
I often feel conflicted about it - shouldn't I be reading the damn newspaper? I walk by the newspaper machines every day, glance at the headlines, wonder. Certainly I was much more able to contribute to discussion here at paxacidus in the days when I kept up with everything. Now I just go on and on about musical topics that no one has a clue about nor cares. But why, I ask you, WHY would I want to read the paper? For the next 2 years, why would I want to know? My senators and representatives are already anti-Bush, me writing them isn't going to make them more so. They know what to do without me even telling them. Such is not the case for everyone in this country of course, but thankfully I'm not out there in the wilderness.
I mean Bush is ugly enough as it is (and I don't mean in terms of physical appearance, necessarily), but it's equally if not more ugly to just sit and watch his ass go down, slowly, without him ever admitting failure.

Strange you should mention the Jam. I found myself thinking about Style Council the other day for no reason, and then solo Paul Weller (he sure seemed to be popular over there as a solo performer in the Brit Pop days but I never really latched on to him and I've always wondered if I should give him another try). Well next thing I knew I stumbled upon an internet radio station called Jam Restart or something, and they started playing Paul Weller. Another weird thing was this CD my friend in Scotland sent me of 80's 12" mixes included the long version of Style Council's "My Ever Changing Moods" which was exactly the song that started me onto this in the first place.
I'm talking about too much COINCIDENCE, do you understand? Like the universe just decided, no...insistedthat Marky was going to think about Paul Weller et al no matter what!
Right now I've got two internet radio stations on at the same time and they sound really weird together. I can't seem to decide which one I want to listen to. There's late era Pixies on one and this jazzy xylophone/piano stuff going on with the other one.
