Best music of 2007...is it happening now or later?

Post by marky »

I've taken a sampling of new music from 2007 and Lily Allen comes up big on the list so far. Two Tone is back! And with sassy female vocals to boot! I'm in! After her is Deerhoof, followed by Battles and Panda Bear (possibly). The Field is nice too, if a bit low key and electronic. Field Music the jury is out on. They're either dead brilliant or as Mojo said the British version of Steely Dan in which case they're boring as hell. Further investigation is necessary.

Arcade Fire are just mediocre. Blech.

Sorry Madonna's "Lucky Star" 12" version is playing, have to go and boogie...slag her off all you like but to me this was the shining moment of Madonna ever was that 12" version of Lucky Star. There's an art to dance music circa '83 - 84.

Okay the main thing though that has impressed me above all else I've heard that is new this year is this Icelandic guy on 4AD doing sortof classical stuff mixed with stuff from his dad's old computers, like old computer voices saying weird out of date shit...this guy's name is so hard to spell unless you are either Icelandic or Swedish probably. Let me try it...Johann Johannsson. Yeah that's it. Practice Makes Perfect.
