Damnit this is bugging me I can't figure out who the hell I told this to last night or where I might have posted about it. I just know I wrote it somewhere last night, and I wish it had been here.
When I went to the Who concert in San Diego last weekend I found out about two new Who songs that I didn't know about before because they had stuck them on the end of a compilation called Then & Now or whatever it's called. Anyway, so they did one of these live is how I found out about them.
One of them is called "Old Red Wine" and it's dedicated to their bassist John Entwhistle who died a few years ago. They said the reason it's called that is because he liked to drink red wine past its prime. Isn't that wild? Anyway, it's a great song. But not quite as great as the other new song on that compilation called "Real Good Looking Boy" which was the one they did at the concert. Now, the deal is, it's supposed to be written about Elvis, and they showed a lot of old footage of Elvis on the screen while they played it. Roger Daltrey introduced the song and was very passionate about it so I thought he was the one who wrote it, but of course Pete Townshend did and Pete writes all their songs anyway.
Anyway you see about an hour before the concert, but before I was ready to go there, I was walking down the street in San Diego and these two sortof shabby looking guys (homeless? or just dirty? I don't know) asked me how to get to the venue. They were on foot like me. Well I had already studied my maps ahead of time like I usually do, so I was able to tell them exactly how to get there. They seemed sooo grateful, I guess they were pretty lost. Well, a little bit after they had walked in the opposite direction from me, one of them turned around and called out "Thanks...good lookin'!"
Well you may think this is crazy but I found that terribly flattering. I didn't say anything to them, though. The only evidence I had that anyone could possibly think me good looking was a lady at my work a couple of years ago who was always very aggressively flirting with me. But even though she was pretty I didn't much like the attention and it made me feel like she was just throwing herself at anyone. Plus she liked Nickelback, so I knew she wasn't my type. haha.
Anyway where am I going with this? Well you see the significance is this encounter with these two guys happened before I knew this Who song existed called "Real Good Lookin' Boy" that they did at the concert. So I just thought that was a real nice coincidental weird thing.
Anyway, christ I'm hungover.
Two new Who songs I didn't know about until the concert
I just spoke to Pixie on the phone and she made me happy. I like people who just want to chat on the phone late at night when I'm drunk. Bless her.
Now listen to this, though you have to hear this Who song "Old Red Wine". And you also have to hear this Who song "Real Good Lookin' Boy" you have to believe that rock and roll will save your soul, for it will. You have to believe.
"Old Red Wine/Well Past Its Prime/Gonna Have To Drink It With You/Some Other Time"
God bless the dead members of the Who. And Sloth knows I'm an atheist, so I'm off the hook.
"That's a Real Good Lookin' Boy"
