You don't understand what early Thomas Dolby does to me. Thank god I'm still sober enough to figure out exactly what I want to hear:

He was a Libra, like Pixie. And he came up with some amazing tunes. "She Blinded Me With Science" included.

I'm going to pass out soon.

Just listen to these Thomas Dolby songs and weep:

Airwaves
Windpower
Europa & The Pirate Twins
Flying North (this one brings me to tears to this day)
Cloudburst at Shingle Street
Screen Kiss
One Of Our Submarines

And I'm embarassed to say I don't remember what songs were good on the Flat Earth besides "Screen Kiss"...okay "Dissidents" was pretty good, but not nearly of the same caliber. Wait...I'll get back to you later. Wait.

FLYING NORTH IS MY FAVOURITE THOMAS DOLBY SONG! I HAD IT ON THE SAME TAPE OFF THE RADIO ON WHICH I RECORDED THE SONG THAT GOT ME INTO XTC FOR THE FIRST TIME.

Wow, "Hyperactive". You know I just dissed that song on the other board a few weeks ago, not remembering that I actually like it. God I feel really weird about that. What made me diss that song? That really confuses me. I bought that 45 back when it was released.

I think its okay to diss that song. Sure it made us buy the album when we were 12 or whatever and it was a marketing attempt to follow up the single "Blinded me With Science".

Hyperactive? I give it a 6 out of 10.

I love you Sloth for responding. Bless you.

I wish I could convey my joy in listening to this band McCarthy from 1986 for the first time in years...jesus christ. It's worth noting that one of the members went on to be a key member of Stereolab.

I still have the first couple of McCarthy 12"es, because I made sure to save them. 1986 etc. They were militantly political, and gay. But god the British tunes!!!

Seriously - and I've not said this yet on the other board - I remember feeling like McCarthy were supposed to take the throne from the recently defunct Smiths. They were the next step up from the Smiths. I am now listening to their vinyl LP "I Am A Wallet"

And very drunk.

Oh god I'm so sorry, I don't have the last song on this LP ripped to my computer. But it will happen. If you believe in fucking BRITISH MUSIC GODAMMIT IF YOU ARE ALIVE WITH A PULSE THEN YOU MUST CONCEDE THE QUALITY OF BRITISH MUSIC YOU MUST BOW DOWN. FORGET IT NOW.

Tim Gane, the guitarist of Stereolab spent his formative years in an early band called McCarthy who had a song on the famous NME C86 cassette and I'm in heaven listening to this record.

It's called the Well of Loneliness EP. I thought they had just surpassed the Smiths when this came out.
