Here's my first podcast

Post by marky »

I'm finally "on the air". Here's my first podcast. It's four songs about which I'll talk later. When you click on the link, scroll to the very bottom of the screen and pick the "free" option, unless you want to pay for it:

http://rapidshare.com/files/8691022/Mar ... of_Fun.mp3

Because I especially love Paxacidus, I will tell what the songs are (I don't speak on the podcast, although I may in the future)

DO NOT READ THIS IF YOU HAVE NOT LISTENED TO THE PODCAST FIRST:

1. Vogel - "Flaschenzug"

This is a really rare track by a guy I honestly don't think released anything else in his entire life. I heard it on the radio eons ago and from then on in record shops I tried and tried and tried to find records by him but never did. Well, fast forward to a few years ago I finally heard it again after a billion years on a WFMU show and wrote the DJ about it in breathless excitement. He proceeded to tell me it was from a Recommended Records compilation from the early or mid 80's and that yes, this guy never ever did release another thing ever. Also THIS IS NOT THE SAME GUY AS THE TECHNO ARTIST CALLED CHRISTIAN VOGEL.

2. SPK - "Metal Dance" (Peel Session)

Fuck the goddamn 12" mix version and the album version too. Nothing comes close to the Peel Session version for energy and sexy danceability. Remember this was the year Blue Monday first came out. This was all new territory. But don't bother about SPK too much, the rest of their stuff is pretty industrial and/or ambient, which I find boring. I'll let you know if I find a single song by them even 5% as good as this one. They were from Australia I think.

3. Brick - Dazz

Well by now we all know the story...Marky hears this in a grocery store, goes absolutely nuts for a week trying to figure out who does it...absolutely cannot rest...calls the store, calls their corporate headquarters, calls the company that provides the music for their stores...all with no luck until someone on the other board managed to identify it for me. Man, in the old days without the internet, this would never have been possible, I am so grateful. These guys were from Atlanta.

4. Tom Robinson - War Baby

The first out gay punk rocker, or something like that. Most of his stuff I don't find very inspiring, but something about this song obsessed me for a time. Definitely the best thing I've heard by him. He was good friends with John Peel and Billy Bragg I think.

Also, just to let you guys know, I'm not planning to do it this way forever. I think it's time for me to get my own blog again. I just can't think of a better way to do it, really.

The idea of a Jackson 5 Christmas record makes me laugh. Nice one.

Well the thing is ultimately I'd rather someone be able to click on a link and get the damn thing [MY PODCAST] directly or at least without all these cheezy ads on the page that confuse. Is it too crazy to have this image in my mind of a link on P.A. where you just click it and it either prompts you in a clear manner to begin downloading [MY PODCAST] right away, or...like you know what I mean? I can't stand all those fucking confusing ads and shit. I had to wade through them myself, actually, just to hear this one John Peel show from 1990 on an even worse site for ads than the one I link to above...I can't take that shit anymore. Ugh.

Anyway I'm happy with your offering, and I'll think about it more through the night...although realistically not with any clarity until I sober up.

Also, Ultravox's album "Vienna" just started and that shit makes my jaw drop. You'll never hear a more beautiful synthesizer thing than that, my god.

We need a podcast page with a Factory label sort of design. That's what we need. Right? Peter Saville, where are you? Hahaha.

Right. When I sober up, I'll get back to you.

Hmmm I'll listen to this a little more before I give an opinon :P

But I need to know where I can send you this file: I don't have webspace anymore to put it somewhere for you DL; so do you have a g-mail account or rather I'll send you a huge zip file and don't want to clog your inbox or something if you don't know it's coming!
Lie to me, it takes less time to drink you pretty.

Okay look...there's no excuse for me to be as drunk as I am now. No excuse at all. I can feel the headache coming on.

but Pixie I found the same problem you can't send this shit over email, it doesn't work. Forget it. Get a You Send It account and send it to people properly. I mean...proberly. My head hurts. Sleeepy time. Where's my aspirin? Someone on another board said should take ibuprofen. I haven't done that in a long while but man...my head hurts.

Sleep time now. Shhhhhhhh I've got my aspirin. My headache.

And my cat, who helps my headache, too. Bless him.

So I really liked it - with maybe the exception of the first one. But that's prolly cause I am in desperate need of new speakers: be careful with that techno ... the levels are all different on the mp3s and it fucks shit up.
Second I have to remember you can't feel the bass all the time - I mean, you can, but that's why I go through speakers.

However - I think you should do a christmasy podcast: with punk rock christmas songs. I am stuck at my family's today and I need more punk christmas songs to listen to to avoid the fact that my family doesn't mind listening to the same Xmas CD over and over: and that's elvis and then some bluegrass to make my grandma happy.
Lie to me, it takes less time to drink you pretty.

Hey I'm sorry I was so harsh on you about the You Send It thing, Pixie. I was just being drunk and headachy. Also, what happened is I got the email with the two tracks on it AFTER the message where you asked if I got anything. I also got the third track. So it worked okay. I'm going to listen to 'em in a minute here when I get done listening to the SWEDISH BAND CALLED THE KNIFE - DO YOU KNOW THEM, SLOTH? THEIR ALBUM "SILENT SHOUT" IS HIGH UP ON A LOT OF JOURNALISTS' YEAR END LISTS. THEY SOUND DELICIOUSLY KRAFTWERKY. THEY HAVE FEMALE VOCALS, it sounds like two women singing at the same time, actually. I'm not sure if it is just one woman doing multiple tracks or if it really is two women, but I think it's two. They are dancey electro with a twist. They are on Mute records - isn't that cool as shit? They're on Mute! Not some big corporate ass mother fucker, no they are on Mute!

Man I really went WAY too far last night. I had a headache for over 12 hours I am serious. That's not normal for me at all. I think probably it was that I wasn't watching my sodium intake or whatever.

Yeah it doesn't surprise me that you didn't find the sound qualiity of the first track up to scratch, Pixie. I'm not really sure if there's anything I could do to make it sound better, though. I don't know if you can get that on vinyl anymore. Certainly not on CD. But it's also possible that I didn't add it to the mix as a wave file, in which case I would have converted it at really bad rate, as I found out later when I was screwing around with some software. Something I'll watch out for from now on.

I'm listening to the gabber baby song now that you sent, Pixie. It's hilarious. And then it starts getting faster and faster! I'm laughing out loud now! Negativland would really dig that, man. They would be all over that.

This UFO track sounds so Christmasy, listen to those bell sounds. I can visualize people dancing to this who are like putting their arms across their chests and stuff. I think the moon goes into Pisces very soon. It can only get crazier and crazier. I've already got ideas for about 4 more podcasts.

Also I doubt Sarah is out there reading this but my job gave me a raise after all, in fact, they actually are paying me exactly that particular salary that I wanted all along and couldn't find in my job search. So I've passed the mental block, now. I make exactly the amount of money I said I was aiming for. It seems crazy though that I was so dead set on this certain number, as though even a penny less would have been a failure on my part or something. I don't know why I had this thing about this certain number.

Okay now I'm listening to the DJFBI track you sent. I think I like it better than the other two. It's not driven by that hyperfast keyboard noise or whatever that is. This is actually quite a bit like The Knife, that band I was talking about above. I want to send you a Knife track, Pixie.

Yeah I like that DJFBI thing, that's great. I'd like to have a whole compilation of that kind of stuff. Are there any songs like that with male vocals?
