I'm inspired now by the fact that I see in a Ticketmaster email that The Blasters have reformed and are playing in Seattle. Now that's ANOTHER band I really hate. I haven't heard them in ages, thankfully. They had a rockabilly sort of sound. But yeah I really hated them with a passion.
Also here, from the other Happy Mondays/Oasis thread, is my list of bands/artists I hate:
AC/DC
The Proclaimers (you know the song I mean - 'I would walk one hundred miles' - yeah I woudn't walk a goddamn inch for those cunts)
Bruce Springsteen
John Cougar Mellencamp
Primus (yeah they make me want to die, I'm serious, turn that fuckin' shit off)
Canned Heat - you know that band that does "going to the country" from the 60's?
Mariah Carey (the high notes should be banned from the earth)
Dire Straits (this almost goes without saying, though like John Peel himself, I have a soft spot for Sultans of Swing too as long as we don't tell anyone. I've no doubt that if his wife hadn't finished the book Peel never would have admitted this to anyone of his own free will)
Whitney Houston "I Will Always Love You" (probably the most unbearable song on the planet)
The Fabulous Thunderbirds - remember them? "Wrap It Up" was that the name of it? Oh god. Nauseating.
Also I don't particularly care for the Streets.

The Proclaimers are not stalkers, they are Scottish. I admit that is a subtle difference but one that cannot be overlooked.
They are a bit odd but they are better than most bands. I saw them live at the Crocodile and for a couple of 40 year olds they rocked. They have this weird 50's vibe without being cheesy. Then again I would probably never buy/download an album of theirs either.
Most of those are obvious, but I do agree with you about Bruce. What is the attraction to this guy? He is in the same category as Billy Joel. His albums after 1980 are all fucking awful! That new Peter Seeger one that is supposed to be retro is fucking dumbo. Froggie went a courtin? We sang that in 3rd grade music class. I hated it then and I still do.

Actually I have no idea about the Proclaimers lyrics I never even thought about it because I just can't stand hearing the song long enough to have bothered figuring out what they're actually singing. I just want to turn it off. And yes I KNOW they're Scottish, that's what perplexes me, but I guess it's true sometimes music from over there can repulse me just as much as music from over here. Perhaps if I heard another song by them besides that, it wouldn't be so bad.
John Peel was decidedly anti-Springsteen as well, and another one he objected to was the Carpenters, about whom I think he said that that much wholesomeness just couldn't be good for anybody, something like that. The only reason I'll pardon the Carpenters is because I was a kid when I heard them and I think that's the only way they would make sense to anyone is to be a kid when you hear them, but I never ever ever listened to them of my own free will. Never. Also The Eagles is another one I'd like to take a pot shot at. Peel said once on the air "Am I going to play the Eagles? Not bloody likely" The Eagles MAY have sounded okay in the 70's, tolerable even, but there is no reason on God's green earth (sorry Sloth it's just an expression my mother used) why anyone should have to suffer through "Take It To The Limit" on AM or FM radio again, especially if they are driving a car or in the car at the time.

I didn't know he was born in Scotland. I know a lot of people really revere David Byrne. His approach leaves me a bit puzzled, but I definitely respect him. Do you know the Talking Heads song "Heaven"? That's the one Simply Red cover on their first album. That is a great song. Also This Mortal Coil covered Talking Heads "Drugs" on a 10" that I don't have anymore. Man that was a long ass time ago. I must have been 17.
Also there is one song at the very end of the Talking Heads album that Thom Yorke mentioned - "Remain In Light" that's it. Yeah the song at the very end of that thing is really fantastic. I can't remember the name of it.
Also I'm a sucker for the good old classic by Talking Heads - oh don't tell me - "This Must Be The Place" that's it. I remember buying that album when it came out, the one with "Burning Down the House" on it - Speaking In Tongues, that's it. Yeah I bought that when it came out and it just left me confused, a lot of it. I remember him being on David Letterman just before I bought it. I was just a kid, I couldn't understand what the hell he was saying about it.
I gotta tell you, when some freak opened fire on the Jewish centre in downtown Seattle, I thought of the song "Psycho Killer". That was about 6 months ago.
