The Who have a new album out after 24 years

The Who have a brand new album out, "Endless Wire". It's pretty good, actually. I thought they were just going to release an EP and be done with it but apparently they had a full length in mind. It just feels like such a shock hearing them after all this time. They're not someone I pull out a lot, really. Though I do pull them out sometimes. In 1997-98 was when I really went crazy over them and bought all their albums. Though I must say I think Tommy & Quadrophenia are the weakest of the lot. I also don't like Live At Leeds at all. All told, I'm really more of a Pete Townshend fan. I kindof wish he sung all the songs rather than Daltrey, though Daltrey's voice is still very powerful.

Also it's not much of a rocker what I've heard so far. Mellow, quiet, low key and serious, more like. Not that that's bad.

On an unrelated note, it turns out the baby boomer, self- confessed "old hippie" guy I work with (not the Muslim guy but another guy who was on vacation for a long time) has excellent taste in music! He fucking played Dead Can Dance in the office one day this week and I was like "Jesus I do not believe my ears". He played Velvet Underground, too. Finally it got to this one song I liked enough to ask him who/what it was. He said it was someone called Faun Fables (but it sounded a lot like 60's psych rockers Amon Duul to me). So anyway he said that what it is is this website called pandora.com that will build a whole playlist for you based upon parameters you choose. So he said you could choose something like The Doors and it will build you a whole playlist of stuff that is sortof like the Doors, both old and new stuff. So it's really cool these playlists he puts on. Yesterday he played a 60's psych/garage rock track by the Plastic...oh crap I can't remember their name now. I looked it up online, but the song was something about being in the shadows of your mind, something like that. It was cool.

Anyway he said his son got him into Dead Can Dance, I thought that was so cool. I just can't explain what a luxury it is to hear someone playing music I like in the office after putting up with so much utter crap from people in the past.
Of course there's nothing to stop me from playing music in the office myself, but that's just something I wouldn't do. I can't explain why.

Well now that I've finally got around to investigating this new Who album I am absolutely STUNNED. I really love this baby. I mean, I really love it to death. Sorry I said Final Fantasy were the album of the year, I was wrong. Very wrong indeed. Cause this is it.

I haven't had a decent Pete Townshend fix for TEN bloody years are you kidding? He released a third album of old solo material and I was so disappointed cause the first two had moments of real greatness, but the third...what a disappointment. Hell, I even remember this Lifehouse thing I bought of him - oh god I completely forgot about that until now! Jesus. But it didn't matter compared to this new Who album. Upon which Roger Daltrey gives I'd say the best vocal performance of his entire career.

I've missed Townshend's music so much! And yet I didn't know he still had something like this in him! God bless him and Daltrey.

You know what I said on the other board? If Kate Bush came back after 12 years, and The Who after 24, then who comes back after 48? The Beatles? Hahaha.

Some one else posted and said these were biblical numbers and it might mean the return of Jesus Christ! HAHAHAAH
I think he was joking, but...hell maybe he wasn't. Hmm..come to think of it, I do remember hearing about that particular poster being possibly religious before, actually. I hadn't realized that memory was there until now. Oh well. It was a good laugh! All I could say was "Well, if the democrats win..."

Did you guys know that Zak Starkey, the son of Ringo Starr plays drums live with The Who now? I only mentioned him cause he looks so fucking cool in the short DVD that comes with the new Who album. He just looks like he ought to be in the Charlatans, or he needs to be a rock star in his own right. Apparently he's played drums for Johnny Marr's Healers band and Oasis and The Who. Anyway...it doesn't matter.

I will not, I repeat, I will not go back to the store for more beer tonight.

Daltrey sings (Towshend writes) in the lyrics "We climb up high/to the golden station/Curtis Mayfield ain't waiting long"

Dude it's fucking crazy this song "Mirror Door" - it mentions Johnny Cash, and Led Zeppelin too. And the funniest part of all is when Daltrey sings "Amadeus" with AN AMERICAN ACCENT! THAT CRACKS ME UP SO HARD!!!! GOD I gotta go to bed soon. Christ.

A good friend of mine who is a guitarist told me to sit down and listen to "Live at Leeds." (You can get a much extended version these days.) Remind yourself that there are only three instruments in this band. Moon's drumming is big and Townsend comes in with his whirling chords every so often but apart and inbetween that there is a fuck of a lot of sound. Then and only then will you realise what a musical genious John Entwhistle is. He makes it sound like they are a five piece band.

I feel like no one else in the world cares about this album but me. It's a lonely feeling. They may not have been the Stones, or the Beatles, or Led Zeppelin, but this is half of the Who and a masterpiece and no one cares. I mean, there are maybe 3 other people on the other board who care about this album. Pathetic.
