Indeep - "Last Night A DJ Saved My Life"

Post by marky »

If you've never heard of this track, you could be forgiven as far as I'm concerned. It never hit the Top 40 and I'd only kindof vaguely heard about it for years until some months ago I'd ordered a record in the mail that turned out to be one of those homemade (bootleg) white label records made by some DJ somewhere that had no words on the label at all and didn't even have a proper sleeve. It had three songs on it by various artists and by sheer accident, one of them was a remix of this song. I think the group was from New York actually. Anyway, I think more people ought to know this song, as it's first rate dance music, even in its unremixed form.

I believe the song is from 1983, though I'm certain it's been through several generations of remixes. It even features the sound of a toilet flushing in the middle. Could you possibly ask for more? It's kindof like Chic, but much more like pop music than Chic ever managed. It even features a bit of a rap, too.

No, I'm afraid I'm going to continue playing only this song over and over and over until I am finally tired of it, if that's possible.
