Yeah, I'm obsessed with this band called Brick now. This turned out to be the song I heard in the grocery store a week ago and couldn't figure out who it was. Thankfully someone on the other board was able to identify it for me. It was a song called "Dazz" from 1977. Delicious combination of Disco and Jazz, with a fabulous funky bass line. Man, A Certain Ratio would have creamed over these guys. They were from Atlanta. Don't buy their greatest hits though or you won't get the full version of "Dazz". I think you can only get their proper albums on vinyl. If my turntable wasn't broken I'd probably go try to find them right now.
Also don't get confused like I was at first - this isn't the Dazz Band we're talking about here. Totally different group.

oH GOD you just don't know how much this song rules "Dazz" - DISCO JAZZ
But then the other song starts that I'm obsessed with right now by
Tom Robinson "War Baby"
God when I had this horrible hangover I couldn't stop hearing it iin my head "War BAby/I'm scared/so scared/whatever it is that you're puttint me through/I don't think I could stand another ten years of this fighting/always stabbing and wouding/only getting my own back"
"WAR BABY!"
See this is horrible don't you know what it feels like when you get two songs in your head at the same time and they won't stop playing over and over and over in your head?
My advice to McC is look for the 12" of Tom Robinson's "War Baby".

They beat the hell out of anybody else pretending to do Disco except Chic. They're as good Chic. This song is as good as Chic. The bass line alone will have you crawling on the floor.

And then you get to like the 8th minute of it and the bass does something different again...just unbelievable.
It's called "Dazz" and if you haven't heard the version that is 5+ minutes, you're missing out.
This song just kills me I'm sorry. I want to hear it again and again for at least 25 times in a row.
