Last thing for tonight is I must say in all serious sobriety that I do believe the Durutti Column album released this year "Keep Breathing" MUST be a career peak for Vini. It's not perfect, but I don't expect perfection from him. All the same it seems a better album to me than he's done in many years, a real achievement, I think.

There is one Martin Hannett record I want and have found it impossible to find. It's a 7" by Tim Green called "Who Can Tell" on the Rabid label. I guess it was probably 1978 or something. I've never even seen a single copy for sale ever. Because Kate Bush doesn't love me, obviously.

I'd pay upwards of $200 for that.

Never mind, look. Joy Division. No one would even be talking about them now if it weren't for Martin Hannett. I'm serious. Listen to "Decades" off Closer and tell me who's the greatest producer in the world? I'm serious, they would have been nothing without Martin Hannett. It's sad to say, but true.

Also isn't it great that I saw a young lad no older than 16 wearing a Love Will Tear Us Apart shirt? Doesn't that give you faith for the new generation of kids coming up?

Since I've read much further in the Ian Curtis book by now I thought I'd comment:

First of all, even though I think it's a fantastic book, they should not have called Crispy Ambulance "funksters". This was a huge crime. As though they were somehow related to A Certain Ratio, that's just fucking ridiculous. There was no funk to Crispy Ambulance's music at all.

Also doesn't Vini Reilly kill you every single time with his modest sensitive personality? Isn't he a genius despite the fact that he's imperfect? I'm telling you if his album this year isn't the best thing I've heard from him since the 80's. Never underestimate Vini. Anyway. Never mind. First Morrissey album, he was on. Which you knew already McC. I know you knew that already.
