I know the Beck's boat doesn't sound Swedish but don't worry, they don't actually serve Becks. there.. however more importantly its cheap and overlooks the main harbor and is never crowded... they just advertise Beck's for some reason on the sides of the boat. It's Spendrup's all around. The ubiquitous Swedish beer that no one's ever heard of. Nothing special it is... but way better than being sober.

Well I wasn't quite sure whether the last game had been played yet or not...I knew it was this weekend, but last night out of the blue I had a prediction that Italy would win the world cup. I wrote it down...it came to me at 9:42 pm Friday 7th of July. I haven't watched them play or even seen any games since my last posting here the day England lost.

Spendrups is a national beer of Sweden.

Other major players include Pripps, Ã…bro, Falcon, Mariestadts, and Norrland Guld.

I have never seen or heard of anyone outside Sweden drinking Swedish beer. If anyone can dispute this please let me know. Perhaps Finland and Norway have it.

The Swedish government have destroyed the Swedish beer industry by basically making it illegal to sell beer anywhere but in "state stores" where they charge 100% tax on the shit. A 6-pack of decent beer will cost about $12.00.

In supermarkets you can buy 2.8 beer (untaxed) and 3.5 beer but all that does it give you a headache because it has to be specially made for the Swedish market and no one puts any care into it. A six pack of 2.8 beer is like $4 so often bums just drink twice as much (2 x 2.8 beers equals a normal beer). 3.5 beer in theory should not be too bad because after all real Guinness is only 4 beer and a normal Heneiken is only 5. But it's not the alcohol content (yeah right) it's the taste that matters. They call the weak beer 'Folköl' which means 'beer of the people'.

I hope that was interesting... I gotta go breakfast is ready.

Is Guinness really only 4% alcohol?

I would rather die than drink beer with only a 2.8 or 3.5% alcohol content. I mean that is just so fucked up.

Also I imagine you can buy imported beer there? Or is the selection not that good?

Yes Guinness is only 4.27% alcohol. I remember reading that somewhere at least and I just googled it. A 'standard' beer like Bud or Bud light is 5%. A 'strong' beer like Leffe is about '7 %'. Wine is anywhere from 11 to 15 percent, normally 13 %. Whiskey, vodak , gin, etc is normally 40%. Bailey's and porto are around 20% which makes them perfect gateway drugs.

I have been drinking all day in the sun. Now the VM (world cup as they call it here) is on. I am making some potatoes and mustard sauce herring and after that it's steak and salad. Lot's of beer and wine also.

Allez Les Francais!!!

If Italy wins I am going to be upset.

I'm trying to get on the bus to the pub, really I'm trying. But I forgot my bus pass. With any luck I will see the last half hour of the game.

Hey McC, I got your phone message, no worries. I know sport can be a real sensitive subject for you, and a lot of other folks too. I'm honestly sorry that France didn't win, but I'm on the side of the sport minister of France that called Zidane's actions "unpardonable". It really doesn't matter what Materazzi said to him, and hell, think of all the kids who looked up to him as a hero...anyway it's over and ultimately it's him who has to live with it no matter what anybody says. I do think anger management skills should be a part of coaching these teams if they aren't already.

Also I must congratulate you on getting a sealed copy of PIL's original Metal Box! I mean shit man that's fucking great! I've toyed with the idea of getting it myself but I've never even *seen* a sealed one. Good for you!

What a waste...

I was completely at a loss for words with the Wcup final. A good win...NO...a terrible loss...YES. France won that game in skill and ability for over a hundred (100) minutes. Losing in PK's is a joke. I love the French teams, but Zidane broke my heart whe he broke a sternum. (Break might be a little strong...), but still....he WOULD have made at least another penalty shot and aided in the victory.

Disgusting....simply disgusting. In a WC final, nothing should tempt a player or bring about such an absurd penalty, so as one would be ejected from such an important game....especially his last.
Italy was outplayed, and won. I will not feel sorry for France, but I cannot congratulate Italy.

I have nothing else to say on this matter, except, Platini has to feel the same way I do with the final score........alienated by his brethren footballers.

Truly disgusted,

SJ

With the help of an expert lip reader the Daily Mail was able to decipher what led to the violent outburst.

First defender Marco Materazzi spoke in Italian - a language understood by Zidane who once played for Italian side Juventus - grabbed his opponent and told him 'hold on, wait, that one's not for a n***** like you.'

It is not clear whether the Italian was referring to the ball heading their way or his own groping of Zidane.

The expert, who can lip read foreign languages phonetically and translate with the aid of an Italian interpreter, was unable to see what Zidane said in reply.

But she saw that as the players walked forward Materazzi said: 'We all know you are the son of a terrorist whore.'

Then, just before the headbutt, he was seen saying,: 'So just f*** off.'

The translation tallies with the words of Zidane's agent who said the player had told him the Italian made a 'very serious' comment.

'Zinedine didn't want to talk about it but it will all come out in the next week,' said Alain Miglaccio.

'He is a man who normally lets things wash over him but on Sunday night something exploded inside him.'
