am i allowed to come?

i thought not since mcc said "no girlfriends or wiwes allowed". but then my dear husband the sloth pointed out i don't count as one - not sure whether this is a good or a bad thing.

from martino's comments it sounds like there could possibly be a chance for a wifes & girlfriends-tent at the local campground - sounds like a reasonable compromise...

ingrid; myke

Post by martino »

hello ingrid i think the idea of your coming is splendid. the rules are not yet set; mc said no wives and/or girlfriends but then again if mc set the rules we would all be pissing in the kitchen, so to speak. as omar sharif say in that brilliant movie (which i recommend to all) Monsieur Ibrahim et les fleurs du Coran, heaven is for everybody, not just for young men.

myke: looking back at my previous post it seems what i wrote is impossibly patronizing, for which i wish to apologize (if offense was taken). what do i know about you anyway. but knock off the self-consciousness about your southern accent please. having spoking with you i can testify you have a sweet voice.

So did anyone, like, get tickets yet?

I start a new job tomorrow so it would be best if I go in there knowing when I'm going (at least roughly).

This bloody thing goes on for like a month. Somebody pick a week or two you guys want to hang out.

I would suggest the first round as there are more games and we can probably actually see some games.

Not that it has a thing to do with the world cup, but Martino I think I have decided that Can beat the shit out of every other band I can think of besides maybe New Order/Joy Division. I am so happy to finally have all their albums now. I've actually played about 5 Can albums in a row since last night. Yeah, I've got it bad, man. And the eponymous album is due to be reissued at the end of May or something. God. That one is especially good I think. It's from 1979, but of course most people don't care.

Anyway, let's talk about football, lads. What up? Let's get this thread off the ground, eh?

I have considered this very carefully, you see, for The Fall, PIL, Velvet Underground and even The Stooges have all been swallowed up by Can for me, really. Even though I know in some very respectable quarters this might be perceived as the ultimate punk post-punk blasphemy. But that's just the way it is.

Well I pretty much made plans to go to Greece for the entire month of July and I'll be working all of June.

I am a little disappointed about the World Cup thing but maybe we can get this forum going at some point. We're less than a month away.

Too bad it didn't work out. I've never met Myke or Martino and it's been a while since I've seen the Cutch. And last time we met he wasn't exactly the poster child for sanity. But oh well... sigh... somehow I think the month in Greece (last year I spent a month in Hawaii... next year who knows...) will suit me just fine. Last August we went to Samos, this year it will be Icaria.

I can smell the melange of salt water, fresh fried calamari, and Heineken already. Anybody got tzatziki? Shit, well then a lemon will do.

i know, i bummed off. and indeed the WC is less than a month off.

but isn't this bb about bumming off? well i know it isn't but it sounded like a good excuse.

anyway. everybody (within limits) is still invited. i have been working particularly hard (and making money) which is as good an excuse as any. yes really, my business has been great so my life was hectic.

what else: lotsa fun, lotsa travel -- i did the provence with daughter and dog over easter with a mobile home and it was just great -- lotsa friends, name it i had it. but just no time to read and post here.

anything else? i saw the arctic monkeys (and they were no good), i saw a lot of swell movies, i drank the nicest wine and kissed the best girl. now all i need is to see the best people, when you come, to my country next month.

weird world cup trivia i learned today.

hi martino, my friend gave me this article today; it was something that ?freakenomics? has put out. i don't know if you've heard of "freakenomics" i hadn't. but they study the patterns of weird seemingly unconnected things, i think. anyway, they found that the majority of world cup players were born in either january, february, or march, and further that of the elite youth soccer players in germany out of fifty six, fifty two were born in those months; the relationship goes something like, these kids are about a year older when they are up against kids born in say september or october, so they are bigger / more physically mature, and therefore, they get picked first and get trained with the highest expectations all along. it was interesting and related to teaching actually, about how little is actually "talent" and how much truly is practice.

they went on to explain how this relates to pretty much all other fields. so according to them, if you thought you were particularly talented at something, you are probably wrong, more than likely what you are is particularly practiced at it (and you probably like it quite a bit and practiced it all along more than other things because you like it, which is sort of robert pirsig's theory in zen and the art of . . . etc)

interesting. :) glad to see you back.

Martino, on this thread, Jan 10 2006:
when i get my thang in order and my balls in shape i will start new threads in this forum, including

tickets
the teams
the games
drinking, etc. in germany
people and sex
towns
misc. (in which everything else can be included, unless something is deemed by you folks to be as important as the other topics)

i think that sounds logical, and since life is all about logic, don't dare contradict.
But still no stories as of yet to fill the thread. Martino is not happy with the board as it is, as he reveals on another thread that he got "terribly bored" with it. But yet he is too busy or unwilling to paint his own corner that we could all be entertained by. Instead we are stuck with the boredom of the frequent posters here which Sloth quite rightly named as myself, Sarah and Pixie. Who shall share the blame of the boredom of this board, but it is not our fault etc. that no one else will post. And then we have the problem that when there was finally some newbie with long essays, Tommy chased him away. And even if Tommy was completely correct when he critiqued the guy, he didn't exactly come back, which I regret.

So anyway I just wanted to say that I had one last thing on the subject of things German for the moment because I pulled out this CD from my shelves a few weeks ago and it's been sitting on my floor since then, unplayed but I meant to pull it out for the hell of it, it is a German psychedlic rock kind of CD by the Phatom Payn Act called "Bad Vibes Anyone??" (yes there are two question marks) And it is likely very 60's influenced but I can't remember and the guy on the front sleeve has black sunglasses and black hair down to his shoulders, and well...it's supposed to be psychedelic 60's style I think. I remember it being a pretty good CD which is why I didn't get rid of it, but I haven't played it since probably 1999. It came out in 1993, it says.

So I'm going to play it now just for the hell of it. That is all.

Yeah just what I thought. He's trying to be Velvet Underground. But that's actually okay with me.

It's like Spacemen 3, that kind of music.

Okay I'm seriously going to be quiet now because as I check the time, Pixie is at the desk now.
