"I for one would like to see some games"-The Sloth

That's why they have TVs in bars and hotel rooms.

USA vs Italy. Me and a girl from Bari banging away in a hotel room with Champagne being delivered by room service.

"Put that on Misses Tommys tab, Danke"-

The only German McCutcheon needs to know.

That long ass name that begins with a G is where the States play. Stuttgart is where I can get tickets.

I wonder if there are hunky gay guys in Germany. Who play soccer. Or at least look like soccer players. Or rugby. Yeah, rugby will do. My passport is blank.

pronounce it "gals in kershen"

located in the old industrial rustbelt, gelsenkirchen is an ugly town with super sports fans. they drink well and have a friendly disposition.

Martino,

I would like to reserve a spot on the floor somewhere. As I am coming most likely by train, I will bring a sleeping bag and promise to be respectful of your working and living environment. I hope you can take some time off and hang out as much as possible. I have been wanting to meet you now for what, 5 years?

Myke, there are hunky gays everywhere. Except in Iran where they hang them at age 15.

fine with me. stay as long as you want. and don't worry about imposing: germany is closed for business during the WC. i will be taking most of the month off.

so: kyle, tommy, mc and sloth staying at my place. four is normally no problem and five will be cozy. if it gets tight there is micky's place five minutes up the road.

anybody else will have to stay in a tent in the garden of my former house, where the wife and daughter are living. beautiful garden but june weather is unreliable in this part of europe.

if yous decide to take wives/girlfriends/friends along i will book space at a camping ground uptown. say so soon.

man, this is gonna be real fun! this is gonna be historic! once-in-a-lifetime boozing and bliss

Geez ... I'd love to come and either be the cozy 5th or stay at Micky though I don't know if Micky would want a gay southern american with a really bad accent staying there. Some f onlolks are fine with it, some ain't, so no judgements my end. Either way ... what a blast it would be meeting the rest of the Pax gang. Sloth, Tommy, Martino ... all at the same time. Wow. I must only wonder what a plane ticket will cost. That'll be the kicker.

Are there any decent hotels near where you live?

well i'll be damned. sounds like the fabled paxass (re)union might happen this year, in the summer, in my town. wouldn't it be great!

myke -- some of my best friends are gay. i say this without irony. my town is friendly to homosexuals; it is normal to see hunky young guys or sexy lesbians holding hands on the street. from what i hear there is a degree of "attitude" to be found amongst the young hip crowd but surely you can deal with that. i am concerned however that if this is your first trip outside the u.s., then culture shock might be an issue. the weather is often splendid in june but it can be horribly rainy; the people tend to be crabby, the food and service unpredictable... but you are most welcome; i will try to find a place for you to stay and you sure won't be an american alone.

brett: my place is less than 10 minutes walking from the centre of town. so you have a great pick of hotels depending mainly on your budget. cheapest $50 per night in the suburbs; comfortable from $150, but the sky's the limit. should you come/w wife there are some really really nice chateaux in the vincinity. stay for example at the schlosshotel in koenigstein: this is where the brazilian team will be staying and it is only a half-hour drive.

to all of you kind folks: please let me manage your expectations. frankfurt is not a particularly pretty town. germany is not a particularly pretty country. and my apartment is a smallish two-bedroom thing. alas separation has forced me to adapt a life style more bohemian than yuppie. my place is your place but my place is humble.

Danke from the bottom of my heart.

But your kindness, attitude and hospitality is anything but humble. You are a good man for even thinking of offering to host the reunion, during the World Cup, where life will already be about as crazy and wild as it can get. With great gratitude I thank you. We will (try to) be good guests.

Does anyone else think Myke's new picture is pornographic?

I've been laid out sick. I'm off on a three day bender in about 12 hours. Quickly I'll try to catch up with the thread.

Sloth in 94 I saw USA against Switzerland and Brazil play Sweden. I got a bigger kick out of the USA game. The atmosphere was great. I'd love to see them again. Brazil was a disappointment. Samba is no doubt cool in Rio at carnival time but I thought the drums and dancing were a distraction . They took some of the edge out of the atmosphere. There a million and one hassles about getting England tickets (to try and keep out the thugs) they might be the hardest to get for that reason.

"Money isn't the problem." I'm not in the clear yet though. Flights over the Atlantic normally mean family obligations. A call to the mothership trumps all others. If I'm lucky (like last year) then Tracy will take us with her on a work jaunt. That way I will get to see the clan and Tracy will not have to use up any vacation time. (Thus freeing me up for the world cup)

After having a child of her own my baby sister has just got myseriously ill. I might also go home to visit her. The short answer is, I'm not on the confirmed list yet.

Myke - if you are interested, I'm meant to be going to the Gay Rugby World Cup in NYC in May. It is just a weekend affair. No pun intended. It would be a good place to "Hook up" If you are interested then we'll continue this on another thread.
