It's easy to get the impression that 12 Inch Bar was supposed to be placed inside a British rail station but ended up in downtown Manhattan through some reversal of the Lend-Lease program. The tiny bar with even tinier tables has essentially the same layout as a railway pub, and it's often buzzing with English-accented chatter from ex-pats and tourists. The requisite kitsch — school lunchboxes, Village People LP's — place it squarely in the Lower East Side, and the tray of $1 Jello shots reminds you that this couldn't be anywhere but America. -- Michael Y. Cool, friendly, and edgy atmosphere without the "attitude". Great beer selection to boot!
