My cat is...still alive!

Post by marky »

Well no one's posted to pub talk in awhile so I figure I'll put this here and give the pax acidus news thread a break.

I thought today was the end of my beloved cat (well, I say 'my cat' - technically it belongs to my roommate). I really thought this would be the last time I'd ever see her. She'd got this infection looking thing in her eye - first time I noticed it I could only stare because it was just absolutely frightening. It looked like something out of a horror movie, like the entire eye was just dead flesh, nothing more than this grey gunk. When I coupled this with how much she's been ailing over the last month or two (breathing problems, just in general not acting like she used to), I just figured that when my roommate took her to the vet today she probably would be unsaveable and they would have to put her to sleep. I tried so very hard to prepare myself for this. I decided crying would just be a luxury, something that would only make me feel worse for no good reason. I tried to get used to being in the places where she goes without her there. I took away the water bowl I always put out for her, knowing it would now only be a painful reminder.

When I got home my roomate wasn't here, so I went out to the store. When I got back the first thing I noticed was a kitty carrier by the door. Empty. And then I saw her. And she was alive. And I felt so undeserving. Really that's how I felt - undeserving. She's got some kind of eye ulcer and she's got medicine for it now. She's got some other problems that probably need to be fixed soon but she is alive, she is moving around. It is a second chance with her I really didn't think fate would let me have.

And I'm not overstating it when I say that out of all the cats I have had or come across in my life (and there have been quite a few) there honestly hasn't been a single one I've ever loved as much as this one. It's because of her personality. They all have personalities you know.

So anyway I just wanted to share this, I guess. There is a quote I came across by accident a few months ago that I thought was kindof interesting by Albert Schweitzer. I don't know anything about him, only his name is familiar. I don't want to be bothered putting it in the quotes section, either so here's what he said:

"There are two means of refuge from the miseries of life: music and cats."

I figure with a quote like that I better learn more about this guy, cause that just about sums it up for me!

Borgy don't you live somewhere near where they had a little water damage lately? I hope you and your loved ones are okay. Death Toll over 100,000 and counting. I mean we must think lots of those could have been prevented by a society who put a man on the moon.

That "little water problem" was in South Asia. It was only in Indonesia, Thailand, India, and Sri Lanka. I think Kenya also had some water problems. The Philippines is in Southeast Asia.
