Bulletin Board of Bad Behavior

Well I almost feel obligated to comment on this film...uh series of episodes. I mean I can't remember the last time I was saddled with such a LONG MOVIE. 6 episodes about 70 min. each. It took me 4 days to make my way through it.

But yet I'm not complaining. By the end of it, you knew a lot about that guy's life and I always thought it was kindof cool when he actually sang those songs from the 40's. He seemed so larger than life then, and yet so human...completely on top of all of the rest of the movie when he sang those silly songs. I mean you literally felt like you were inside that actor/character's head after watching this thing for that many hours. It just went on and on and on and on but there was so much to resolve, so you couldn't stop. And you could tell he was so ridiculously talented, and his talent was being wasted. I kept hoping he'd find a way to write in hospital with someone to write it down for him. It was a great experience, really was, this film. And woah! That nurse, the brunette! Was she NOT stunning!? Her name as an actress was Joanne Whalley and I could swear I saw her before, I meant to check it out.

Another thing that kept going through my mind, especially when they showed that guy Reginald with the silly 50's hairstyle in the hospital, reading the book called "The Singing Detective", he was such a dipshit that character, but when they showed him after awhile I kept thinking "oh my god when this movie was made, 1986, the Smiths still existed. I mean do you know that the fucking Smiths were like the very last band to die out from the post punk days? Oh my god how lucky we were that the SMITHS WERE STILL AROUND IN 1986!!!!"

Okay, so that's a rather inaccurate statement. They were not the only ones from post punk to stick around, not by a longshot. But I've been reading this book by Simon Reynolds that came out this year called Rip It Up And Start Again: Post Punk 1978-1984, and while I was reading this and he finally gets to the 1986 British indie bands, right...and then he mentions how happy we were to still have the Smiths after so many other bands had died out...and I really remember that, you know? I remember how fucking happy we were to still have the goddamn Smiths in 1987. I just really feel lucky that they lasted that long.

Apparently she used to be married to Val Kilmer.

so i don't remember what movies i've had to go see or rent because of her, but i'm sure i've seen a few -- i'm trying to think of them -- completely blank. i think she was in the one that val kilmer played a blind masseur in (i checked it out for anyone who'd like to use the correct term, masseuse is the fem. of masseur. does that mean doctor suess is the fem. of doctor ssuer?) watching val kilmer was painful to me, though, something about the teeth, so i think i've blocked it all out. at times i think, why have i paid money to see these things -- terrible.

Plug that title into google and Alan Bates and Stan Barstow are liable to pop out. (I promise you I haven't) That's plenty to warm the cockles of Mr Morissey. There was a remake though. A series - not a movie. It had our Joanne in it. She got her impressive boobs out. I stumbled across them at an impressive age. I still pine for them now. The pictures from the Singing detective need an explanation.. Marky has seen it and so has Martino. Tell the folk about the pictures when she is dressed as a nurse.
