I just got to see a pre-release screening of "Breakfast on Pluto", directed by Neil Jordan (They Crying Game, and several others), and I highly recommend it.
I won't say too much about the story, but I will say that it managed to be entertaining and moving without trying too hard.
It stars Cillian Murphy (28 days Later) in a role completely different from that film. THat's all I'll say about that. Also for the music afficianados are small roles for Gavin Friday and Bryan Ferry. And the soundtrack was great, although I haven't got the knowledge that some have (Marky), so those of you who know more may like it even more (or I suppose less, but I doubt that.)
Anyway, check it out when you can. I nominate it for a PAcademy award.

I have a friend who is pretty crazy about Gavin Friday. I'll mention this to him, see if he knows about it. Bryan Ferry in a film sounds like a cool idea, too.
The Crying Game was a great film. I'll keep this one in mind.

I am being premature. It's 8:36 a.m. and its already light outside. It won't be dark 22 hours per day for another month.
I have been pretty happy with the weather since July actually. I go running or on walks almost every day. I figured we'd be under 6 feet of snow by now.

Jesus. Okay. So I proved I wasn't so drunk I couldn't check to see whether the film was playing or not. And it is, so I have to figure out when to go down there.

Okay well I did go to see it last night. Matinee - thank god they offer matinee showings on days when I work and therefore am sober enough to do such a thing as go see a movie.
But I'm afraid I wasn't completely happy with it, really. The way they kept putting up those chapter titles on the screen before nearly every scene - there was about 30 of them by movie's end, and that's just too much. I also felt the main character was a bit difficult to believe or sympathise with. It wasn't that he was a woman so much as she didn't seem to take anything seriously. By movie's end it got a little better, though, I really felt her humanity when she was talking to her father through the slot in the porno booth, but there were three life-and-limb disasters in the film, and she always acted as if it was all just...well...an act. It's very hard to put a finger on, actually. Because I wanted to like her. Wanted to identify with her, but the character or performance wouldn't let me. At times she reminded me of a friend of mine a long, long time ago, but still...just not real enough. Kindof frustrating. And I won't lie either - those whispered Irish accents were nearly impossible to decipher at times.
To accentuate the positive, though, I really liked the magician guy she ended up with for a time - he looked familiar to me - do you know who that actor was? He was one of the first people in the film I was really happy with, seemed to make things more interesting. Which is why I was disappointed when once again the movie did a whiplash turn into some completely different scenario and left that guy behind. There was no reason for her to leave him behind permanently. They'd had no fight, etc.
Another positive was Bryan Ferry's performance, that was cool. I'm also wondering who the rock star guy in the movie was with the sortof Bono-ish haircut. Was that Gavin Friday? I suppose I will have to look it up because I'm not sure I have enough of an idea what Gavin Friday looks like (I'm not a fan of the Virgin Prunes). But I thought he was kindof cool, especially when he fought with her over the guns she threw in the water, he really seemed terribly agonized and macho and yet faggy at the same time. But then of course, he too disappeared in the picture.
My guess is the film was made from a very long book as a starting point, and they tried to include too much.
