I read about this film when I was a kid, flipping through my dad's film encyclopedia book. It won all kinds of awards and all, was a big deal at the time apparently. But I knew I would never understand it, since I was only a kid. It seems strange to me that I even got around to seeing it as an adult. A lucky accident I guess, because it certainly is an emotional powerhouse. The fabric of society was beginning to give way in 1966, social mores were weakening and awakening. In fact, the trivia says this was actually the film that started those MPAA motion picture ratings we all know and love such as R and PG, etc. One could hardly ask more of Liz Taylor OR Richard Burton than what they give in this amazing film, though I did so love Burton in the remake of Orwell's 1984 as well.

There's another Burton film I want to see as well called Equus, supposed to be a complex psychological thriller and quite good. Based on a play. I'm actually starting to wonder if movies based on plays isn't a pretty great idea in itself.

But sometimes I scold myself because I think I should be out in the sunshine instead of obsessed with seeing this list of movies! 8) Such is the fate of a student with no time in the winter, I guess.

Yeah I was on the phone with my friend who is in town this week from AZ. I didn't realize you could call back right away. I hope you left a message, though. ;)
