It's Cool

Conor O'berst, Bright Eyes, in one of his songs says, “I don't read the reviews . . . I am not singing for you. It makes me think a little bit about the legends of Shakespeare, I mean about the reviews he originally got. In one of the classes I took, not the one entitled Shakespeare oddly enough, I learned that he got shit reviews when he started. Luckily he wasn't singing for them either. Also and oddly enough, my class in Shakespeare taught me how to let go of ever wanting to hold on to the idea of the importance of the writer himself because no one really knows who the genius behind the works was, and that is what is so great about going to college -- you find out that Shakespeare might have been a chick (not really that is a joke) You find out that hundreds of years down the road, the written word still works for hundreds of people regardless of who wrote them.

“I don't read the reviews . . . I am not singing for you. is a quirky, audacious line. Who is he singing for then? But then again when I'm alone in my shower belting that out, I totally understand what he means.

I am going to see Be Cool tonight, which someone told me, got shit reviews , but fortunately, I am not going to the movies for them. I am going for me because I need a good laugh, and I'm hoping I'll be able to squeeze one out during the movie.
