Sometimes critics get it right

Post by mccutcheon »

LOS ANGELES - "Sideways," a quirky comedy about two friends on a road trip through California's wine country, was picked as 2004's best film by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association the group announced Saturday.

The movie won four other awards: best director for Alexander Payne; best supporting actor for Thomas Haden Church; best supporting actress for Virginia Madsen; and best screenplay, which was written by Alexander Payne and Jim Taylor.

Payne is the official Pax Acidus auteur. Besides who else were they going to give it to? Mike N. is great but Closer sure wasn't. And Nat Portman is as cute as a button on a tweed coat but she sure didn't pull off the sex kitten routine the way Heather Graham did in Boggie Nights as Roller Girl.

aye, i went on a date , like a proper date, and went to sideways. seeing as it was buy the guys who did about schmidt. I thought there were some funny momentss but also some really dull drags. and not dull because i couldn't relate to 40 something humor, but just cause some of the scenes kind of drifted away from contributing to the movie. but to find that this was nominated, and granted I've only seen one movie since i got divorced, for best picture must only mean it was a weak, weak, year for films. glad i missed most of it. fog or war, eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, and fejrkajldjf 911 were my favorites.
