Head Red

Post by Tommy Martyn »

Me and Mrs Tommy,

we got chatting and we couldn't for the life of us think of one male romantic lead who was a red head. Now granted, we are not film buffs, but you'd think that we could get one off the top of our heads (Groan). Mav, Mc and Co, who are the sexy carrots?

sexy carrots and annoying characters

Post by martino »

sexy carrots are seldom to be found. nonetheless: here is my (probably inaccurate and surely incomplete) short list:

david caruso, the guy who trashed his career when he left nypd blue

eric stoltz (the dealer in pulp fiction): not really a romantic lead, but he has the potential

kenneth branagh, aka ken aargh, aka the most annoying brit after sting

gielgud (he was red, wasn't he?)

fred astaire (ibid)

donald o'connor (played cosmo brown in singin' in the rain: not really romantic but a swell actor nonetheless)

red foxx (just joking)

conan o'brian (now i'm really joking)

Yes, the most romantic being Eric S in Naked in New York. Or there is that John Hughes movie.

you got all the guys I would have thought of. Branaugh and Stoltz being the main ones. Not a lot of 'em.

Would Woody Allen qualify? He played the romantic lead opposite a number of hot women.

Was Trevor Howard red haired when he was a young man? Geilgud, regardless of haircolour, is out: on account of him being a raving poofter.

Post by martino »

tommy -

you have no idea how pleased i am when you make a joke in my native language ("geil" meaning "horny" in german)

i think you are right about trevor howard.

speaking of old drinkers, what about harris?

getting back to poofs: are you serious? according to your logic, rock hudson was never a romantic lead.

Man, these fucking moderators. Fucking logic police.

The difference between, "Jahnny deer owld Jahnny," (I'll explain that one later) and Rock the cock Hudson is that one did everthing in his power to cover up the fact that he was gay and the other one didn't. Rock wouldn't have been able to get into those scrapes with Doris Day if Joe Public thought he was a whoopsie. Johhny G could never have been a romantic lead anyway. He was too ugly and skinny. To Englishmen and women of his generation, an ex public schoolboy who paraded round in tights and pancake make up could have been little else other than a nancy boy.

That's what I was getting at.
