The Man Who Would Be King

Post by Sloth »

The Libertines wrote a song about this movie on their new album...

anyone see it?

It is the fucking dog's bollocks, as is any movie with Sean Connery in it. He made even The Highlander memorable.

Okay I'm fucking off down the pub...

Does anybody think we need a Cinema section to the BB of BB?

Art to me still means painting and such.... comments?

I like how art covers all art. But that said we do have a literature thread. Hmm? I don't know.

Hell yeah Sloth! I've wondered about that for a long time. I remember you adding the Art section only at the urging of others, and just figured there must be some reason why you didn't want a Film section. Sure films are art, but then so is music or fiction. I don't think most people normally think of art in that kind of broad sense, though, do they?

So yeah I think it's long overdue here to have a Film section.

vouchsafe it's a great movie. i saw it about 15 years ago, when my country's national film museum, which is located in my home town, did a john huston retrospective. i've been a huston fan ever since. what i wouldn't give to see a good copy of "reflections in a golden eye"...

on the film-as-PABB-section topic. i think i kinda suggested this way back but gave up at some point.

it would be nice to do a quick and easy read on what other fine people have to say about a movie, before i go see one. putting movies together into a section would help; the alternative of using the search engine is too slow. since people are posting their film impressions just about anyplace ("movie of the year" in the lovers section? good one, mc) i really think putting all the movie stuff together in one place would be an improvement.

While I don't wish to stop the welcome, hip trend of "Film section at BB of BB", I wonder Martino have you heard of imdb? The Internet Movie Database? If not, it's really cool (www.imdb.com, I think). In fact, when the all music guide (AMG) changed so drastically recently, there were a LOT of complaints from people who pointed to how much better a site the imdb is in comparison.

The IMDB used to be a small indy site, and now I think Amazon owns it.

It is fantastic.

the imdb

is a fantastic site marky, i agree. the data is quite accurate and complete and i use it all the time.

however i have found that the quality of subjective opinions at the imdb is not my cup of tea. just look at all the lousy spielberg movies in the list of top-100 movies. for me the imbd is great to get information on movies i have seen, but it is no good for deciding whether to see a film or rent a film.

I would vote yes on a film section

I was at a very good friend's house when I saw American Splendor, which is about the finest damn movie I've seen this year -- it made me laugh outloud, so I'd watch it again. We picked the characters most likely to be us in our funniest nightmare.

Have a nice beer.
