Monotheism and Negativland

Post by marky »

Well I just wanted to share this description of what I'm going to go to tomorrow. I can't figure out a good section of the board to put this under. We need a section just called "art", I think.

Negativland
It's All In Your Head FM

It's All In Your Head FM is a two-hour-long stereophonic look at monotheism in all its fundamental forms worldwide, and the all-important role played by the human brain in believing them. Dr. Oslo Norway is the founder of an all-new radio network, and his provocatively-reasoned position of God-less objectivity can actually start arguments. Is monotheism now doing more harm than good? Christianity and Islam are this year's featured religions as Negativland asks you to contemplate some rather complex ideas about our brains' beliefs in "documentary collage" form.

Negativland

Consolidated Works is proud to present Negativlandland, a visual art and video installation exhibition by the "cultural jamming" group Negativland. In Negativlandland, you'll peer into wrecked cars, get your fingers in the dirt, discover the secrets of Howland Island, learn how to make your own noises on the Booper, view many brand new video works and hiccup with rabbits.

Since 1980, the 4 or 5 Floptops known as Negativland have been creating records, fine art, video, books, radio and live performance using appropriated sound, image and text. Mixing original materials and music with things taken from corporately owned mass culture, Negativland re-arranges these bits and pieces to make them say and suggest things that they never intended to. In doing this kind of cultural opposition and "culture jamming" (a term coined by Negativland in 1984), Negativland have been sued twice for copyright infringement.

Whoops, I guess that second one was from 2001, but you get the picture.
