Artica

Post by TragicPixie »

Okay so I know it's probably pretty useless to post this here but you never know...
Anyway I'll be doing a piece at an art festival here called Artica (http://www.artica.org/) if anyone is interested and around or knows someone who would be.

It's always worth a try!
Lie to me, it takes less time to drink you pretty.

I finally got to the Contemporary Arts Centre (Center if you must) here in Cincinnati. The building is brand new and, according to the NYT, is the most important building in america since the end of the cold war. I liked it a lot. I went to see a show about the culture war in the art world from the 80's Younger people here may not remember the threat the NEA was under from Jesse Helms and the religious right. I felt old looking at some of the stuff. It seemed like yesterday. It all seemed very petty. Were people really getting that worked up about this stuff? One room had a big warning up about adult images. One was a video installation. There was a tv about the size a regular computer monitor and a set of earphones so you could hear the stuff without bothering the other patrons. I donned the bins and pressed play. The footage was of these two women going to see various art shows in NYC and talking about censorship. Without warning the clip changed to a set of short scenes from full on gay porn. Namely (in order) two guys - who you only see from the neck down - jacking off. Then butt fucking. Then pulling out and coming on his back. The TV itself was placed on the floor and the lead for the phones was very short so it made you crouch in front of the TV. As somebody else came into the room I was crouched down looking at this guy getting shagged up the arse. The only thing that would have made it any worse would have been if it was my mother coming round the corner.
