Ballboy. Well the first two 4-song EP's were
excellent stuff, excellent. Then they released
some third EP that appeared to add horns and
it didn't leave me with a great impression
from what Stu played and then this compilation
came out that Mark said only had a few tracks
not on the EP's and I just never went far
enough to go buy it. I haven't any money
right now anyway. I'm about to start a new
job next week. I've been very busy lately.
Buying music is a great thing but it hasn't
been foremost in my mind lately. And normally
it is. But just not lately. Know what I mean?

i found it hard to continue listening to the end of "any other city" and wonder indeed why this kind of crap gets hyped here.

life without buildings may be inspired by pleasantly dated 1980's stuff such as television, japan, gang of four, et al, but i am not able to recognize where they move on from those starting points.

most songs on the cd consist of no more than rambling jams on top of which rambling vocals are placed.

sorry to be so nasty but in this case no other expressions fit.

Well "rambling jams" leads me to believe
you missed the point entirely. It's not
as if there aren't some catchy pop riffs
here. And the last few tracks sound
to me like the best approximations of
Velvet Underground I've ever heard.

But to each his own, otherwise we'll
probably argue about it ad nauseum.
To me they sound a little like
a lot of people and not a thing like
anyone in particular.

I will allow that at first they got
on my nerves, particularly the girl's
vocals, but something happened after
I heard it for like the 8th time on
the radio. I actually think she has
some nice poetry going on at times
and her vocal delivery extremely
creative. My bet is no album this
year will beat it, but...

Bought Elbow's album today...we'll see.
Couldn't go catch them live tonight at the Croc..but I'm with them in spirit.
