Summer Fun in the Sun

Post by mccutcheon »

4th of July the Bottle of Blue is having a party starting at 2pm. There will be beer, potato salad and Top of the Pops DJ's spinning in the back yard.

Trivia question...who was the 1st DJ ever to spin a record for Top of the Pops/Brit Pop night at the Baltic Room?

Answer...McCutcheon. I played Primal Scream's Rocks remix by Kris Needs.

Anyway McCutcheon, Maclean and MacElwanie are spinning non patriotic tunes under the sun.

Also only 13 days until Natalie Brenton one of my all time favorite people in the whole world comes to the North West. We are going to an island with Maggie, Sloth and Svenja!!!! Anyone who would like to join us should let me know.

so people are going to ask how the party was. I was going to write, am writng, that if you were not there at 3AM you were not there at all. but that is all bullshit. Then I got this email from Phebe, who sneaked away from her husband to attend. this is her take on it....

Hello Matt.
You are a total sweetheart! I had a wonderful time. I did need to leave because I lied about what I was doing, and I didn't want it to become a problem. Now I am back home. We are watching Crouching Tiger and I am smiling. I only lied because I didn't want him to tell me no and then I would have to fight about it. Didn't want to take a chance of it going that way. We don't fight often, and I don't like to raise his concern. When I got back I told him I sat on Alki beach and wrote for awhile. Hope your party ended as well as it began.
Everyone was saying that you've been heavily influenced by a Welsh writer and asked me if I have read him. I haven't. What was the movie they said was based on his work? If you say the name I will remember.

I don't know what your take on the party was, but your friends are friendly and interesting. Jonathan is a prize. He likes to be the center of attention and he is so funny. His darling wife Ann with the seven month's worth of baby boy brewing in her belly is so in love with him. Rachel is wholesome. I like her! Her job working with homeless youth sounds so interesting, but she looked like she liked it but it was a lot to handle. (It would be.) Sloth. Well when I learned his name was Larry he made more sense. Nothing against him, but he isn't half the writer you are. When I flipped through his Pocket Full, it reminds me of reading a superhero comic book. Zap! Powie! Kazow! Everyone talked about your ability (inability) to write about three dimensional females but holy smokes. Sloth only can write bitchy pin-ups from what I can tell. He writes with the same grey flex-grip pens that I like. I wish him the best of luck because I can't imagine being able to read through his stuff. It doesn't mean it isn't worthwhile, but it is like Safeco field. If anyone is waiting for *me* to be the one to financially support that venture, they will have a long wait. Larry was nice to talk to. Your brother Zach is fast. Very fast. He has that drunken glint in his eye. Sweet, but fast. I thought of your story "My Easiest Lay" (Did that happen?) I could see that whether or not that story happened, it would be hard to live in his shadow.
And the gorgeous German girl from upstairs, pants unfastened so they don't get caught on her belly button. Her boyfriend, a poster boy for the Aryan race. I didn't catch his name, just thought of him as Mt. Zion. He was too tall to stand in your house. (The guys in my family wouldn't be able to stand in there either.) How can you sleep with such beautiful people making love on the floor above you? Speaking of beautiful, there was Nicole. She's the type who when they come into a room, women like me just concede. Whatever they want is going to happen. Whatever movie they want to watch, we all will watch. Whomever they want to end up with, they end up with. I hardly take the time to talk to girls like Nicole because they don't talk to me. At best, she would talk at me. What happens around a woman like Nicole is that it is too much trouble to assert yourself around them, so we stop trying.
Then came in the trio of girls, led by Emma, who also only knows you from your website. She was cute as a button, Miss Home Interior Design, drawn to your stories because they rock, about sex and drugs. (I told you--you have your finger on the pulse of what girls like her thinks is cool.) Then the massage therapist came in, slick as ice. More beautiful than Nicole, so the undercurrent in the room shifted to her. Whatever she wants. She drew right to Zach, moth to a flame. But theirs is an interesting mix. She will keep the upper hand and flick him off like a spider when she is done with him. I never did hear her name. She didn't need to tell us, we all knew when she showed up.

And that is how a party occurs for a woman, you know. A quick assessment of who's who, who belongs to whom. Who is there with a brain (IMO Rachel is incredibly intelligent and interesting, you should take her out, she is a keeper) and who is there to show off what she bought most recently at Nordstroms. Your friends are an interesting mix. I liked watching them (in case you could not tell.) I liked Todd, but he wasn't in the area where I was very much.

And you are so sweet. Worried we aren't being taken care of, hopping about, checking on everything. Do you want something to eat? Do you need a drink? Are you talking to people? I didn't want you to worry about me. I don't need a party to be lively and fast to have fun. I am mostly a people watcher.

People talked about your stories. Mostly Jonathan. (He is so cute!) You should have been able to hear it. I am not the only one who thinks you are brave to let everyone read them. Your mother sounds like an interesting person. You say she is an artist. What is her medium? Where does she live? Is she still married to your father? Funny, we were all talking about your mother, and Zach was right there. He didn't say anything about her and no one thought to ask him.

So I want to talk to you about writing next time. That was what most interested me this time, but I didn't want to focus attention only on that. I considered wearing pizza shorts and wearing a t-shirt that said "Burnt Roof of Mouth" but after being there, I am sure you and I and possibly Larry would be the ones to get the joke. You should send me something you want to discuss and let me read it ahead, then we can meet for coffee (you won't be so easily distracted. I hope), and I could help you if you are worried about how your females come across. You will get it. Your stories have improved about 500% over these past three years.

Jonathan, Ann and Rachel talked to me about my book. They were very nice about it. It is coming along. I actually am struggling with how to develop some of the parts and maybe (who knows?) you would be able to help me on that. (One part I am just dying on is about a woman who miscarries her baby. She is a stripper at the time and the father is a callous pig of a guy. I am trying to develop a history for the stripper, based on what? three short times that I've been in a strip club. I have a customer who is a stripper and she says we will meet for lunch one day but she is busy and it hasn't happened yet. So I need help with all of that scenario. I am not sure why it is important that I have her be a stripper, but I like the dark element of her past. You are one who understands dark sides of your characters.) I didn't even get to ASK you about your novel.

If you will meet me again, I can drive up there now that I know where you are. I do think you are incredibly attractive, and hope that was not uncomfortable for you.
Let me know if you will have time to talk plot.

And thank you so much for having me!! I loved being there.
See you later,
Phebe

McCutcheon your clock must be fucked up on your computer because its says its 2 hours later than it should be. It's only 8:30AM and I am at work. I did get some sleep, thankfully.

I think its rather shameless that you posted that long letter from Phebe on the board without her permission, but you must be feeling vain in the morning after fucking the neighbor outside all night on the couch drinking.

Most embarrassing moment of the party was definitely throwing up with 2 girls in my bed but I recovered after that. Too much smoking weed with Red Bull and Chardonnay on an empty stomach will do that to a sloth.

Best time was out and about Alki Beach with the fireworks and the kisses. Sorry you don't like my stories Phebe, but to each their own. Glad you had fun though and that's what its all about.

I wouldn't say Phebe's taste of your stories is something you should get worked up about. Damn I wish I could write as good as a comic book. BAB BIFF POW!!

Sloth, when haven't I ever done something that wasn't shameless?

it's funny how people react when they meet me in person after going to the site. how different I must seem to them. I guess my loving, caring, sensetive, depressive side doesn't come out on Pax Acidus. That is shameless.

Now go wright to M. He is pouting and feeling negelected.

as for me I'm back on that god damn Concorde. big W here I come again.

I'm hardly worked up about it. Now who is M, why should I "wright" to them, and what makes you think I'm going to make them feel bettter? Oh mie I am going to Vancouver tonight with a teenaged girl that has never left the state of Washington. Its either going to be fun or really weird. And I think I don't travel enough... well I need some coffee.
