New Music

Post by marky »

Well I said when I got interested in new music, I'd let you know. I have. There's a new Seattle band called The Lights. I've listened to some of their songs several times just to make sure I wasn't kidding myself or under some delusion, but to my ears, these folks really have something delightful going on that isn't too overstated or watered down in pretentiousness. They're on the same label as The Turn-Ons, and here's the site where you can listen to them:

The Lights are having a CD release gig on the 12th at the Crocodile, and I'll be there.

As for other new music, apparently Kraftwerk ACTUALLY have a new album out. No not just remixes, a real new album, their first since Electric Cafe in 1986. I'm planning on catching happy hour at the Baltic Room tonight so I can listen to it. Been longing to revisit the Baltic anyway. Not a bar in town with more sentimental value than that one for me.

I considered going to Bumbershoot very carefully and ended up voting against it. Now I'm glad I did. I'd rather go see The Lights.

In this week's Stranger it was revealed (to me at least) that Sean Ryder's wife is the daughter of Donovan. Fuck me, I guess that's why there's a track called "Donovan" on Pills & Thrills & Bellyaches...

Donovan played this Bumpershoot. I didn't go.

This is Shaun from Word magazine.

Q: What do you most regret about the Mondays?

Shaun:Because we were a gang, when it came to managers, roadies and all that we gave our mates jobs. We didn't think about getting professionals in. And it didn't work. You're telling a mate who you've grown up with, and who you've been out with till five in the morning, that he's got to be at the airport to pick someone up at at nine o' clock, and he says, "Why don't YOU fucking do it?"

Q: Are you clean now?

Shaun: Yes. I'm having a vodka here, my first one today, but I'm doing an interview. And I'm not going to drink myself to death because I'm not doing many interviews.

julia looks hot in the new fitness cover. her makeup is bad, but i like the photo. lance mercer did the inside of the band. bree looks sexy as always. big crush on her and especially when i wax her legs.
when mc says julia is the prettiest woman in seattle, he is right on the money. rebbeca is a fox too.
what do you think of the album?

Well, I admit you had me stumped on that one. According to my research, he's worked with not only Kraftwerk but Electronic, on their stellar "Raise The Pressure" album. Hmm....maybe I should check it out when I get more money...

We all know how much The Sloth hates the RIAA.

Here is an article about them suing a 12 year old girl. I hope they feel better now.

the word from me is that the karl bartos cd is great! much better than the underwhelming new kraftwerk.

i'm getting a new G4 mac next week, with dvd burner and a dsl connection, yeah! i will be trying out iTunes which they say is easy to use, even for dummies like me, and maybe if somebody asks me real nice i will send selected burnt mp3's over by email.

by the way guys thanks real much for the music recommendations. i sure like driving with the dandy warhols on full blast. about calexico i am not so sure even though it is my friend judi's favorite group (and she happens to know most of guys in the band personally) -- too whiny, too jazzy for me. but still nice to know
