Well I've had to pretty much force myself to take stock of the new Radiohead, because I've got an awful lot of far more fascinating music to listen to at the moment, but now that I have played Hail To The Thief a few times, I feel confident in saying it mostly sucks. There are a few real standout tracks and it's a shame they had to appear on an album alongside so much other waffling. I went around the web looking at various reviews of the album and was delighted to find the Guardian's review best represented my feelings on the album and the state of Radiohead in 2003:

I also think it interesting that although prior to the album's release, rumors were flying that they would be doing a guitar oriented album and it was supposed to be upbeat and uplifting, the reality was neither of these prophecies came true. When I initally heard these rumors I *dreaded* them coming true - now I think it would have been much better if they had.

I've been wondering why Radiohead has been all over MTV and MTV2 compared to their shunning such things before. They have this live video out that is in heavy rotation.
I think the reviewer summed up their music perfectly in that it's just this side of manic depression. Can we say Zoloft, Radiohead??
Hey ... I was checking out the White Stripes website and thought this note posted by Jack was amusing. I think he'd fit in around here. Here's what Jack had to say (and apparantly he hate's music downloading ..) :

good morning children, and goodnight meg and i are violently pushing forward for absolutely no reason, we see elephant rising soon and it's uncomplicated presence forces us to wake up in the morning. i want to tell you about it some, but i don't know where to start. i designed the artwork myself and with the help of headcoats drummer bruce brand was able to bring it to printing block. i've seperated the earth into three parts vertically ( lattitude or longitude?) there will be six covers, one for vinyl, and one for compact disc in each of the three sections of the globe, that way meg and i know where you got it from, such as the vinyl in australia will be the same as the vinyl in japan, but different from the cd in south america, which will be the same as the cd in north america. don't you understand? lots of lightbulbs going off, getting our feet on solid ground, attempting to destroy and rebuild at a moments notice. i'm very sad at some of you for peeking at you christmas presents before christmas morning, can't you wait? i can, well i do, we want you to have it when we want you to have it, it's unfair that some get a taste and confuse others before they have the chance to have it for themselves, but the devil is at work here and you will pay for your impatience. this world of have it now, millisecond attention span and gross neglect for quality is getting old. i'm getting old too, watch me slowly die. meg coughed today. i looked at a puddle too. i told beck to get out of my bathtub, and i collected do not disturb signs with terry. mostly i had three minutes to myself today, and tomorrow too. some of the minutes are on loan. eating well though, and smiling politely to strangers, meg says to hug you mothers tightly and i say to let you lamplight shine and burn. see you soon kids on a stage near you, boomdagle rumblefuss charpenhurper fortusblend and cateldragon

To be honest, I've been wondering why the Stripes
haven't made it out here lately. Did they and I missed it??
Thanks for the tidbit from Jack, Myke.
I just wonder when it will possible to pay to download whole albums? Why don't the record companies even entertain this idea?
I find myself having to play the entire Radiohead album over and over just to hear the songs I want to hear because I can't be bothered playing them one at a time...I saw Lou Reed tonight. It was okay...a little bit too depressing and low key...but
still great. Perhaps the highlight was the female cello player who did a solo for "Venus In Furs" and made all kinds of unholy sounds on her cello as though she really was the S&M mistress in that song, hitting her sexual partner with a whip. That was wild.

Favorite Radiohead track: A Punchup At A Wedding. So sad because when I hear it I know they're capable of more. Colin the bassist is my favorite and I can't help thinking if him and Ed could just get together and supersede the opinions of the rest of the band...no offense against Johnny but that eerie old synthesizer thing he does is getting old.
Nabi? You out there? As a big fan like me, what do you think?

I thought the new radiohead was the best they've ever done. I know everyone loved OK Computer, but I thought it was a rip of of Spiritualized's Ladies and gentlemen we are Floating in Space, which is so much better.

When I first got into Radiohead, I would have said the same. Infact I liked The Bends more than OK Computer. When Kid A came out, I thought it was
better than either of them, but I've found that after many repeated plays, OK Computer tends to hold up better than either The Bends or Kid A. Just my opinion. I wouldn't dare venture to say which is
really "the best".

I like the bends best; but Pablo Honey is still nifty.
I don't have the new album... I'm a poor college student. They are still amazing live tho' ... I wouldn't have paid $50 for a ticket but I did and I'm not terribly upset. (The girl I went with is a crazed Radiohead fan and wanted as close to them as she could get thus the uber pricey ticket.)
