I can't tell you how satisfying it is to hear Tony Wilson express regrets about Martin Hannett and to know that he now fully understands the depth of Hannett's genius and the unfulfilled potential there. He said that Hannett had wanted a Fairlight, which was the next step in synthesizers at that time and Wilson said if only they hadn't wasted so much money with the Hacienda and instead bought Hannett his Fairlight then he would have become more well known instead of Trevor Horn (of Art of Noise/Frankie Goes To Hollywood) getting all the credit instead.

More stories from the video later...

Marky,

I'm good mates with the guy who is doing the sound for the film. I'm sure i can get some insider gossip once filming starts.
Will keep you posted.

Sorry but I think you're Tommy playing a trick on me.

I did actually correspond by email twice with the maker of the film, so there.

In that case I'll have you know I have a pretty good New Order connection for news on the band, I'm not desperate.

No I don't have the Mojo classic with Morrissey on.

And yes, it is all about the music of Manchester.

Except when I take a break and listen to the new Scritti Politti.

I'd also like to make clear that I found out about some interesting books to read only the week after I went to the stupid Narnes & Boble, frustratingly enough. One of which was recommended by Mark E. Smith. The other I found more or less on my own but has the same name as an old techno act that Orbital used to like.

So expect Marky to turn a new literary leaf in his life, for now school is over, and he can read what he bloody well likes on the bus.

Marky,

I live in London - my flatmate is a boom swinger and he starts filming on Thursday of this week in Nottingham. It remains to be seen what info he can get, but any he gives me (being a big Joy Division fan, I will ask) I will pass on to you.

Well Nietzsche bless you then.

A light skinned black girl actually asked me about my Nietzsche book on the bus. She knew the names of philosphers, but not much about Nietzsche. I told her there was one other philospher I liked, but I couldn't remember his name. She mentioned Spinoza, I'd heard that name before, but I don't think I've even read any Spinoza. Sloth? Sorry. This is probably on the wrong thread for this type of discussion.

Good to hear from you Tanque, but I still say the new Scritti Politti is the deal. It will sneak up on you and then the next thing you know you might feel the need to play it 30 times.

Also there is a new album by something called Burial, the artist and album name are Burial, released this year and I love it. It's supposed to be Dubstep but Brian Eno would be proud, etc. It just feels like the cutting edge of music today, that's all I can say.

Also I like this other new band from the UK called Hot Chip. Electronic splendour. But I haven't heard the whole album, so we'll see.

I read Spinoza. He was seen as paving the way for the Enlightenment, but still not one of my favorites. Here is a summary of his views (from Wikipedia).

* The natural world is infinite.
* There is no real difference between good and evil.
* Everything done by humans and other animals is excellent and divine.
* All rights are derived from the State.
* Animals can be used in any way by people for the benefit of the human race.
* His face was on the 1000 Guilder note until the bastards switched to the eurotrash system (they had cool money down there)

Star Trek fans love him, animal rights activists abhor him, and rock n roller's don't give a shit because he's been dead for 400 years and drugs weren't involved.
