Some further thoughts:

Please Tanque don't let me scare you away with my incompetent drunken ramblings.

One of the things that came out in the Shadowplayers video was that Martin Hannett had asked New Order to do "Cries & Whispers" something like 40 to 50 times before he let them quit. Hooky was so disgusted and bitter about this. It's a brilliant recording anyway, no matter who's side you take.

Also...if the piano sounds as cold as ice, you know you're listening to a Martin Hannett production, when the piano is as cold as ice. That's the first time I've really tried to describe what his production can sound like. Although it's clear he really does put the bass forward and a lot of treble on the rest.

Other stories from the Shadowplayers film, Wilson said...

but I don't want to ruin it for you lot. Get the film if you love Joy Division alone. Folks in the US can get it at a decent price from www.darla.com

Okay but there is one story from the film I will share, not JD related. One of the guys from A Certain Ratio said (and I'm tempted to believe this is a wind-up, mere fiction) that they were actually supposed to do a fuckin' album with GRACE JONES and Hannett producing, and then her producer found out that someone else was going to be producing her and he stopped the whole thing. Jesus H.! Can you fucking imagine an ACR album with Grace Jones and Hannett producing? I want to die! Why did this not happen?

I ordered the DVD from Darla. If I don't get it, or get ripped off your head is gonna roll like a record baby, round-round like a record baby.

Well I just wanted to share here for anyone who cares (and probably McC is the only one) that there do seem to be a lot of Ian Curtis related projects going on right now. Not only has Control started filming (and it's done by Anton Corbijn, that photographer who did the Atmosphere video I think, and a lot of black and white photos of U2 and stuff like that) but there is another film in the works about Ian called Enigmatic, which is being done by the same guy who filmed New Order's Taras Shevchenko video and many of their other videos.

So you got the book "Torn Apart: The Life of Ian Curtis"? I kindof put off reading that cause after Debbie Curtis' book I wasn't really game for reading any more on his life specifically, but the reviews say there's a lot of Martin Hannnet nuggets of gold in there, so I guess I will have to read it. People complain of a lack of editing, though so I guess I can expect typos and grammatical mistakes. Have you read any so far, McC? Is it good?

I'm kindof upset that New Order's live setlist has gotten so much better than it was when I saw them. They do Ceremony now and 24 Hours, all kinds of old things they didn't do much of back then.

I appreciate your Aries impatience, McC, but we have had this conversation before. Remember when you thought the record I sent you got lost in the mail and it didn't? Patience, my good lad, patiencE! I didn't get it as fast as I expected either...

I've got a brand new CD player and all the Can reissued CD's I need, they're made to be played on this new kind of CD player called Super Audio CD Player...higher frequency response...and Can have pierced my soul with love again, Joy Division/New Order ought to feel lucky they are better than Can in the end, because what an honour!

I love my new SACD player!

I called Darla today, they said my DVD must have been lost in the mail. They said (Darla maybe?) that they'd send another one.

Aw, I'm sorry to hear that man. I was kindof hoping maybe you'd got it and just hadn't commented on it yet.

I got Torn Apart, the Ian Curtis book in the mail yesterday.
