Kids are in bed. Mrs is in London. Have got in supplies of Dogfish 90 minute IPA (aka the best IPA in america - take that purity laws) I'm just getting fuelled up and then I'm going to call Marky with a stopwatch in one hand and a script in another and I'm going to see how long we can go without talking about the following:

1) Martin Hannett

2) Joy Division

3) Tony Wilson

4) Peter Saville (the unsung hero of the factory style)

5) George Bush/Dick Cheney/global oil conspiracy theory

6) Mav and his enormous genitals.

7) The role of Mav and his enormous genitals in fighting the global oil conspiracy

I dreamt I had sex with Chrissie Hynde the other night. Does that count?

Also I dreamt about Hitler one night last weekend and that scared the shit out of me and then also I had a dream this past week that I was in the back of a taxi and I looked next to me and it was Bill Gates, that freaked me out completely.

Here's a site about one of my favourite artists of all time: Nick Drake. I think he died in '74 actually. Or thereabouts. His music seems to pop up on a lot of movie soundtracks these days, oddly enough. He was completely unknown during his lifetime, gained fame only gradually thereafter.

"I personally prefer to think Nick committed suicide, in the sense that I'd rather he died because he wanted to end it than it to be the result of of a tragic mistake. That would seem to me to be terrible: for it to be a plea for help that nobody hears."

--Gabrielle Drake, Nick's sister

Generally coming in third when fans discuss Drake's records, Bryter Layter is by no means a disappointment. It contains “Northern Skyâ€￾ a tune Britain's trend-setting newspaper The New Musical Express once called “The greatest English love song of modern timesâ€￾ but the LP's added camaraderie left Nick somewhat uncomfortable in its settings.

Suicide or accident? Nobody really knows. There have been some leftover odds and ends of Drake's music that have been released, most recently on a compilation titled Made To Love Magic (Island). It includes alternate versions, remixed tracks and a newly discovered tune, “Tow The Line,â€￾ but it is the three albums released during his life that map out the classically tragic trajectory of promise, achievement and defeat.

That round sphere is supposed to symbolize the moon, you see, because it was only recently that man ever made it to the moon when that record came out. That's why there's a tiny rocket in the middle of the sphere and the pie slice at the top looks like cheese. Because it was a recent happening that humans had made it to the moon.
