Went to see Magic Magicians tonight, where one of the two opening acts were the Vells. You see the club had changed ownership, which was all too evident when the music played between bands was strangely hip hop and then the entirety of Depeche Mode's Music For The Masses...or was it Black Celebration...I mean they're okay but I'm just not that much of a Mode fan. So I'm thinking "this place needs some Britpop badly."
And then the Vells came on. Suddenly myself and another 15-20 people or so decided they were cool as shit. Couldn't have asked for a better take on Brit Pop. Supposedly they're a local band. Weird shit.

The latest stuff John has been doing live with Magic Magicians is a lot harder stuff, almost early
764 Hero, but I love it because it reminds me of
the genius British band from 1979 called Gang Of Four.

Can you believe Magic Magicians pronounced the word "privacy" in one of the lyrics in the British way of pronouncing it. What a trip.

I've been listening to some pretty cheesy new wave lately. But hey, there's worse things in the world.

Really my favorite things of all though are Jeff Buckley's latest surprise posthumous release with Gary Lucas called "Songs To No One" and
the debut of JOHNNY MARR and the Healers. No matter how I try to be critical about Johnny Marr, he's still from a higher stratosphere than
Charlatans or Oasis no matter how I slice the analytical pie. Halfway to the Beatles, at least.
Which is odd because he just happens to have the son of Ringo in his band.

I came very close to approaching him to say something to the effect of "boy does your music mean a lot to me" but I just couldn't find the courage. I know one day I will, though. I know he's just a normal guy, not some god or whatever, but I wonder how many people have already said that to him by now and it would just feel awkward.

Heartfelt congrats, McC! Here's a toast to ya!

Sloth - It's weird I was just talking to my roomate about that Disney thing today. Are you sure the Supreme Court didn't decide that case already? I recall trying to make sense of it on the U.S. Supreme Court website and couldn't.

Mark,

Last I heard the courts would not budge and Mickey is finally free from the iron chains of corporate whoredom.

Now artists are free to finally depict Mickey coming out of the closet. With a voice like that.... I am sure he is a big gerbil fan.

McC I assume you mean Mickey Mouse is playing the Evil Heat on St. Paddy's Day.

Good to hear Sloth. Now if they'll only uphold Miranda I might be able to breathe again. I've been waiting for their decision on this and sometime in the last week I read they're supposed to decide soon. Please let me know if you hear anything. If they get rid of Miranda it gives cops all the license they need to torture people to extract confessions.
If they do that, I'm gonna go to Canada fast, and for good.

xquisid3, I wish I knew what bands you had to choose from...I've already said Magic Magicians and The Vells but I've a feeling they're not involved. So...I must say Dolour are really cool, and much as I hate to admit it, Modest Mouse have done some really cool stuff even if I've never hopped the bandwagon and bought anything of them. Built To Spill are pretty good worth a go...McC mentioned the Postal Service who aren't bad. Also I love Voyager One. And Marc Olsen.

I don't suppose Dandy Warhols are taking part, but they're good too. From Portland.

I found out Johnny Marr and The Healers are coming to Seattle after all, on April 30. I feel that if there is a God, it must be in the plan to place me in the same room with him. The terrorists are only allowed to kill us all AFTER THAT DAY. I have been waiting for Johnny Marr to get the confidence and gumption to make his proper solo debut for 15 years! He has been collaborating and HIDING BEHIND other musicians for 15 years: Chrissie Hynde, Kirsty MacColl, Billy Bragg, The The, even the only song I can say I really like by Pet Shop Boys he was on! I never thought Johnny Marr would get up to the mike himself and have his day, POST-SMITHS. And the terrorists can only kill us all after APRIL 30.

The only member of the Smiths I ever met in person was the drummer, I got his autograph when he played with the Buzzcocks reunion. But please, put Johnny Marr in the same room with me, whom I would have told you was absolutely my favorite guitarist ever, even 10, 15 years ago. As a teenager, I missed the Smiths when they came to within 2 or 3 hours of my hometown because the I wasn't old enough to drive and the guy who promised to take me did not, and my parents weren't having the bus thing.

April 30.
