Bands that sound like other bands

Post by mccutcheon »

What's the opinion of bands that sound like other bands. I'd say the lead singer of The Datsuns sounds like the lead singer of The Mighty Lemon Drops (probably not on purpose), Ikara Colt sounds like The Fall, Starlet sounds like Belle and Sebastian.

man, that really put a smile on my face.

trying to mimic what they love, who knows. but remember when all the hair bands sounded the same? cinderella, firehouse, warrant, poison. i think whitesnake had thier own distinct sound though. i think this may be why i stopped listening to mainstream rock.

All butt rockers same the same. Its all about drinking budweiser and getting blow jobs from bleach blond frizzy fake breasted heroin addicts in elevators.

Well, I think the weird thing about it is sometimes vocalists can just sound like other vocalists through no particular fault of their own. I did hear one song by Ikara Colt that was definitely a dead ringer for The Fall, but the similarity quit after that.

McC, I wonder if you have heard the track "You Are The Magic" from the Johnny Marr & The Healers album. I was thinking it seemed like the kind of song you would like and is much more electronic than the rest of the album. It actually reminds me of Ian Brown.

no, haven't hear it, I'll have to get that album when I find it. and the new White Stripes, plus I heard The Postal Service recently (one half of Death cab for cutie) and thought they were very god. Out on Sup Pop, which is putting out some cool releases that I even like recently. I'll wait to return to Seattle to pick it up. Less than a month away. yeah!
