The Kills

I'm deep into the digging The Kills. I'm a bit sick of the garage rock scene, even on the cover of Spin! But The Kills are the best of the lot and not even apart of that group. Think humping to Jesus and The Mary Chain, cirteria Bobby G., a slutty Mark E. Smith and The Strokes fronted by a sexy young Joan Jett.

I have more for you includding one caleed 'Only a few of the great tunes of 2002' guess what that is, kinda like a best of which I hate but oh well. i want to post it on Pax. back to your cd's my fave track is Nico. what's that from? what album? I want that. I have a couple of her records but then I'm always hearing these great tracks from her that aren't on what i have even though I thought I had all her stuff. herion rock and roll man. The Royal Tennebums had some great stuff from her. also today i can't type, sorry. too much cheer with a pac victory yesterday. That song I sent is actually her first single ('65 I think). It was impossible to find until it was included a couple of years ago in her compilation "The Classic Years" which is not a bad place to start to get an overview of her career. I also believe the song you heard in Royal Tenenbaums is included on that comp, too, although it originally appeared on her first album "Chelsea Girl". The song I sent though was actually written by Gordon Lightfoot. I've heard of him but know nothing about him. Do you?

As far as Nico is concerned, I feel obliged to warn people her stuff can be pretty long drawn out depressing/arty...not always listener friendly. My favorite album of hers is "Icon" from the early 80's which is a bit more accessible than the rest, but truth be told, I appreciate most of her work.

I agree the music in Royal Tenenbaums was f***ing right on. What a soundtrack for such a horrible movie! Seems like a lot of movies I see nowadays are like that: excellent music, bad movie.
Another example was Igby Goes Down.

I saw this movie w/ Bjork in it tonight, called "Dancer In The Dark". I'm not a huge fan of Bjork - maybe like her more as a person than her music, though Sugarcubes' "Birthday" certainly ripped my head off like everyone else's when it came out. Anyway the movie wasn't bad all in all. Interesting to see it turned out to be an anti-death penalty statement. I do think they should have toned down the musical numbers in the film, though.
Sometimes it's just NOT the right time in a film to start bursting into song and dancing!
