vinyl vs. CD's

McCutcheon-I'd be interested in hearing how you
came to the conclusion that vinyl was the be all end all of life after CD's. What was the impetus,
the reasoning, the force behind the action?
I myself came to prefer CD's over vinyl after some
time but mostly out of pure convenience...most of my vinyl is still on the east coast and transporting it here is a bit of a chore. I also had a job where I was in the car all the time so I needed something I could play in the car. But fundamentally I don't have a real preference for either format. Apples and oranges to me.

I like both as well. I like the physicality of an album and the size of album art. I love cd's though as well. When it comes to mixing I use both to get certain subtle sounds and textures.

How did your deejay gig at Linda's go?

Well, it went okay. I turned some girl on to
English Beat, and then there was the guy who just
kept asking me to play Joy Division. I mean you
could tell he was a bona fide JD fanatic when he referred to them as "Stevie and the JD's"...

Well that was okay by me, so I played them three times for him before he left. From the feedback I kept getting from people, it seemed like if I could stay with the Smiths, Bauhaus/Love & Rockets & The Cure, I'd probably please a fair amount of the people there. It was just weird in general not knowing my audience. I'd been told to pretty much stick with rock and roll and that's what I expected, but I can only rock and roll for so long with my collection, so I just kept going around in circles style-wise, never sure if I was playing whatever people wanted or expected to hear. It was nice to feel free to play Led Zeppelin, though.

vinyl gets my vote. my roommate has hundreds of albums, and i have numerous as well. Leonard Cohen on vinyl is hard to beat.

Does anyone know where to buy vinyl on line. The great record store Amoeba as far as i can tell doesn't sell online, Amazon has only cd's and simplyvinyl.com located in the U.K. has stuff but is limited. I'm locing for classics like Stone Roses and Happy Mondays. can anyone help. And yes, L.C. and Tom Waits on vinyl can't be beat.

If you can write me a short inspirational poem, I would be more than willing to send you the vinyl you require. I would be surprised if you were able to purchase albums from such artists online. There is a tres dodgy record store in Farringdon which has absolutely EVERYTHING so let me know what your requirements are and I'll have a looksee. Second hand is the go, with subtle sexy scratches to boot. ah yes. lemme know.

Personally, I like my music in whatever form I get it in, but if I had to choose a medium, It would be vinyl, backed up on MP3.

Yep, a 7" is vinyl vinyl vinyl and only vinyl.

We have your address now! All right!! I'll have to send some cool postcards or something. Or hell maybe I'll burn something, since I can do that now. Oh wait a minute...you've got enough heat down there in AZ don't you? Ha ha...okay, no hell and no burning then. Just cool postcards.
