if Hey Ya by Outkast was the song of last year, and it was, darlings, then America Is Not The World by Morrissey is the song of this year. And it is darlings.

Hey ya
is a great song.
I can't stand the new single...roses-or whatever the title is. They repeat the damm chorus over and over and over and....
The morrissey song is great...Though I do hate the use of the word 'hamburger' in that song.........

If I'm making any sense, then I haven't made myself clear.
Now here I was, just getting on P.A. and the first thread I read mentions the very song that happens to be pulsing in my headphones. We must be psychic-ly linked, McC.
Tom, I do hope you are aware of just how much the word "hamburger" has U.S. connotations around the world. I'm actually not sure whether it's Coca Cola or hamburgers we're most known for.
And incase anyone gives a toss, Morrissey lives in L.A.
This fills me with both a sense of embarassment at the thought that an Englishman of his caliber could live there, and at the same time, also the feeling of a very real but irrational emotional attachment I feel to that city, of a kind I don't feel about any other city in this whole country. It's a very powerful mixture. Tim Burgess, lead singer of the Charlatans (UK) lives in L.A. too, but whereas he's content to kindof absorb it in his own way and allow it to enrich his musical wanderings, Morrissey is another thing altogether.
For me, home is a country I've only spent 3 months in, and my home away from home is a city I've only spent a few weeks in. England and L.A. together...with Morrissey...makes me very, very, uncomfortable. Only his artistry, his very talent, could even make it palatable for me. And indeed he does, the bastard.
Sigh. I realize I didnt mention Scotland yet, but that's a whole other story I'm not ready to get into. Honestly, leave me be on that one, just yet. In another 10 or 15 years, man, I will have a whole essay ready.
Thank you for tolerating my ramblings on these matters. Now everyone here knows "Just mention the new Morrissey and Mark will go into self-indulgent drunken nonsense essays."
Jesus Christ, let us NOT take life too seriously. Let us not take ourselves too seriously. Your soul just DIES when you take yourself too seriously.
Nietzsche said "The Gay Science" and he damn well wasn't talking about homosexuality. He meant being a SERIOUS THINKER who could THINK JOYFULLY. It's quite a juxtoposition. Well, he was a Libra and a genius to boot, so...he could only set an example. We've all got a long way to go before we come close to him, even if he was human and not perfect.
Love you all, but McC especially just now for sending me on this stupid ramble. Morrissey shall carry me through the night. And if he doesn't, Donovan's "Open Road" LP and Stranglers "La Folie" LP will.
It just seems so strange to me that in the midst of the post-Bush universe, Morrissey turns out to be the perfect person to come along and express what it feels like to be in a post-Bush universe.
I'm waiting for Tommy's acidic rebuttal. Kill the party. Oh well. At least he has a nice house.
If McC can write lots and lots and lots on here, then so can I. Damnit.
And I love you all. But especially McC just now.

Also, another thing I wonder sometimes is if Morrissey feels it's his duty to continue to be...the way he's known for. I mean...does he think "I have to do this Morrissey thing that has worked before for me where I bitch and moan and be depressed etc etc. otherwise I won't catch the fans I need to catch. I have to remain inside this persona."
But then I just give up...I mean...Morrissey is Morrissey and unlike some other similar songwriters I can think of with much contempt at the moment, I do not think it's an ACT.
Make fun of him if you want, but I just don't think it's an ACT.

Morrissey
There's no need for me to go on and on about how much I love the guy...I do.
All I meant about the hamburger line is that I think it sounds kinda corny. I get the symbolism. No big deal...I still absolutely love the song. I love the whole album.
I go through periods of listening to him non-stop....but then take long breaks.....
