On being bored-and finding this board

Post by Tom »

Working incredibly late...on a Saturday night (now Sunday at 2am).

The joy.

How do I find myself here? A book about Morrissey-a visit to an author's website...a website link in some post from someone named Matt.

This post is neither about sex, drugs, or rock and roll.

But-in this forum it shall go.

A quick view of the site makes me curious...art/literarture/music/DJ's/the pills that thrill...

I've been stuck in a rut lately of Long Island hell...lack of writing, reading, listening....so-I'm glad to awaken my senses again with some of the stuff on this site...

Anyway-I always forget about sites I visit....hopefully I'll return here soon and catch up with all things 'pax acidus'.
If I'm making any sense, then I haven't made myself clear.

i know what ur saying. on a really boring day at work i decided to read some online novels. google led me to Burnt Roof of Mouth. it was interesting and found myself craving for more so i went to the home page. Eureka! just what i needed to amuse me! started going through the novels..poems..short stories...and the gallery. I said to myself this is more than interesting especially when i read through the BB of BB! it's definitely more than just sex, drugs and rock n roll! it's got substance definitely more than weed and ecstasy can provide. and the active people on the board are totally not a just a bunch of potheads and druggies. they're hella smart, very knowledgeable about politics, movies, books, music...etc. alright, im not bein a kiss ass here. just pouring out as to how much this site has got me educated about a lot of things and def hooked! :)

That's me.

I hadn't been to that board in a while...just saw ur post-and the post about your website. (assuming Matt is McCutcheon??)

I'll write more when I'm back in the land of the living....got about 2hours sleep last night-and had to come right back to work today.....

anyway-I'm taking most of next week off.

Random thought-anyone here ever hear of LCD Soundsytem? Was listening to a local (stony brook) radio station and heard 'yeah' by them....I just bought it off the internet.

I haven't been record shopping in a long time. I sit and suffer.

Random thought #2
I want to go see Napolean Dynamite. Anyone here see it? This is based upon a 30second ad I saw for it. So who knows-it may be pure shit. The ad afterall-was on MTV-shown as a commerical during 'pimp my ride'.

Don't ask. The TV was on. I was there. The remote THERE. My mind even further away.

I suck.

Yeah that is me, We should hang out. My only friend in the city Pepe is sitting on a plane as I type this on his way back to Heathrow. We watched almost every 2004 match. I'll miss him.

Well I burned the first LCD Soundsystem single "Losing My Edge" for McC, so he should know them. I don't think I've heard "Yeah" yet though - last time I checked (second single) they had decided to try to copy the Stooges, which I thought was a disappointing step in the wrong direction. I'll see if I can try to give "Yeah" a listen as it appears to have come out after that.

Here's a blurb I found about the upcoming LCD Soundsystem album. Note that the first track will be called "Daft Punk Is Playing At My House" (!)...

Marky,

There is something terrifying about the use of the word "Note" in your last post. I for one felt that I was lacking massively in musical knowledge by not knowing why I should note the title. I also couldn't help feeling that there may be some sort of punishment, to be held in reserve, for those of us who in our ignorance make it apparent that we didn't follow through on your instruction.

I'm glad that you have decided to take two hours off from researching music each month. With some determination I bet you could work your way up to three hours.

Note that I have not heard any other LCD Soundsystem songs...not to mention I don't even know which mix of the song 'yeah' that I heard. (There were a few listed when I bought the 12" online)

McCutcheon-sent you an email. Hope your DJ gig went well. And sorry to hear about your friend Pepe. My best friend Cooper just joined the army...go figure.

Well, what happens is Tommy, if you don't pass the music exam they give you in the afterlife, then vikings will abduct you, drag you to a cave and force you to eat 823 peanut butter and pickle sandwiches while being filmed for a nationally syndicated "reality" television programme.

Just thought I'd warn you in advance.

But just to clarify, I suppose I really meant my "note" for McC, as "Daft Punk" is the name of a French electro duo that McC knows, indeed I believe he may have been the one to turn me on to one of their songs: "Digital Love", if I recall correctly, was the title. I also came across the 12" of this song at someone's house about a two months ago.

So LCD Soundsystem included "Daft Punk" in the title of one of their (his?) songs. Which I felt was to be noted.

But really I'd like to discuss this newish band from Sacramento, California called Out Hud. I had been hunting around in some late 70's/early 80's post punk stuff and came across one of their songs. I assumed they must also be a band from the late 70's/early 80's, by the way it sounded. I was absolutely delighted to find out I was wrong, and somehow they have managed to capture so much of what I love about that period. They did a split single with this other band called '!!!' [also called "chick-chick-chick"] who so far don't appeal much to me but a lot of people seem to be talking about them these days, far more than I might have expected a few years ago when I simply took a chance and bought their first CD and no one knew about them.
