What?
MTV has a website?
Creed was the band of the decade?
They sold 24 million albums?
Wow is my finger not on the pulse of the nation!
I thought Creed were a bunch of Christian Doors wannabes without the drugs, sould, or musical talent. They were the "band of the decade"????

I have cable now so I can watch basketball, tennis, and Southpark.
I was watching BET and they were playing the new JayZ single and they bleeped out the word 'bitch' and bitch was like the most popular word in the song and occured in the verse so the music was totally unlistenable.
How can bitch be a bad word on BET of all channels when bitch is the generally accepted ebonics term for 'girlfriend'? Why is girlfriend a bad word? Am I missing something?

Well it seems that BET has been the victim of reactonary fem-nazis that have trouble being compared to a female dog. But you know it is well known that men are dogs. Which is okay. But my fuckin' bitches need to stop trippin' on this PC shit and start trippin' on this PCP shit.

If the programmers of BET really believes that bitch is a bad word than why in the hell would they play hip hop videos? They should be playing Barry Manilow tracks and Little House on the Prairie re-runs.
With all those bleeps in it it totally ruins the songs and gives me the hiccups. Black kids are gonna grow up bleeping themselves and get epileptic seizures.
The lyric in question was:
"If you got girl problems, I feel bad for you son...
I got 99 problems but a bitch ain't one."
The meaning is that Jay-Z has a lot of problems with people after his money and the police, but he always has a fresh supply of pussy.
This lyric is just good clean fun.
People who think 'bitch' is a bad word are playa haters. Even my mom, who is a total prude, let me say that when I was 15.

I heard BET was owned by a white guy... isn't that despicable?

I don't know if that's true, but if it is, it's a good example of capitalism...which many think is despicable. Someone said "hey, black people would totally watch an all-black network" and they started it up and made lots of money. Niche-marketing, a relatively new term I think, describes it. It's just like a gay bar owned by straight people, a women's health club owned by men, or an Iraqi government run by Americans.

BET is a subsidary of Viacom. Robert Johnson started BET and sold it to Viacom. He pocketed 1.5 billion on the deal and is still CEO and Chairman. He also owns an NBA team. Robert Johnson is black and fucking loaded.

Robert Johnson sold his soul to play guitar. Jimi just took acid.

I know that Don King has his hand up BET's ass as well. I'm not sure how far exactly. His King TV which does a lot of the programming for BET (based in Seattle) is the reason that I wasn't able to get out to Seattle during my Paxapalooza tour which really just had me in New York. They wouldn't let us shoot in their studios.
I think Jimi sold his soul too. he and Robert Johnson both died at 27. It's some curse.

I am stunned to learn that Jimmy Johnson took acid and even more stunned to think that he was still able to lead the Dallas Cowboys to TWO superbowl victories. What could he have accomplished if he had stuck to go-getter drugs like cocaine?

I am actually of the opinion that casually referring to all women as bitches (because at some point they end up becoming a girlfriend to someone. Dad and his bitch. Grandad and his bitch.etc) is at best lame and at worst damaging. I am also of the opinion that because folks don't want to be viewed as prudish, reactionary or racist, hip hop "culture" has been allowed to get away with a level of endemic sexism that would be unacceptable elsewhere. None of this is new or original I know. It is more than just tiring to observe that we are well into the second decade of the same macho poses being struck and passed off as desirable and (Lawd help us) part of the necessary apparatus needed to be seen to be "keeping it real."
It does not follow that censorship is the answer. Bleeping out the word "bitch" surrounds it with a cache of subversion that it does not possess. All of which is not lost on the folks who market this crap. You don't sell millions of units by marketing to rebels. You sell millions of units by marketing to the conformers. I would continue but I worry tht the link will go down any moment.

As long as we don't swing back towards PC. I wrote an article for the daily student newspaper way back in '87 and I wrote the phrase 'she was bitching about the guitar sound' and it prompted a staff meeting about why I was a sexiest white male. I said, "What's wrong with being sexy?"

That was a piece I did on Lush by the way. Take that as prophetic or not.

hmm... a female I'm offended when refered to as a bitch... unless of course I am in fact being a bitch... IE if you were the mormons who just came to my door at 9am this morning when I told you "Jesus is dead, and I don't want any" I was a bitch.
I am not however my boyfriend's bitch.
First if I'm dating someone I'm *usually* nice to them. Secondly, he doesn't own me dammit I have a name... hehe
But then... I'm an alleged femme-nazi who wears makeup, shaves her legs, and adores short skirts and high heels.
