Can I just say that this post has given me a quote that I treasure and use all the time. In my humble opinion it goes beyond genius. I refer of course to the line, "He was a poet with words........."

Yes Tommy, but Ms. Michelle also concludes that line with "......and music." I believe she was just making a reference to emphasize the poetry through music rather than the obvious notion of "poetry through words" which exists always.

I'm thinking of posting a poem so I can hear your hilarious criticism.

The thing is Jack, rather than labouring over what you believe she was getting at, you should focus on the monumentally painful prose she uses to get there. The ironies compound when you realise that she uses such mangled language to pay tribute to "poetry" (in whatever form it takes.) It is a very funny line. You can use it as a template for any number of gags about pedestrian description. "He was a painter with paint ......"

There is poetry in this art form that combines words and music. I just wish there was word that brought the two together. (Apart from hymm,dirge, anthem, shanty,ballard or perhaps song)

I look forward to your poety and hope you don't strain too much "thinking" about submitting it.

McC - did you spot the deliberate spelling mistake. Nice one eh?

As you're wont to point out as many mistakes as you see in everyones' posts, wouldn't "labouring" be used only in the Queen's English? Unless I am mistaken, "laboring" is proper in the American vinacular which would be utilized here due to the residency of the board's proprietors regardless of their own desire to be somewhere else.

I can't speak for "vinacular" but the spelling thing was something else. A private joke for McC and the sharp eyed Mav. (And maybe brett and sloth)

I like to use my native spelling format. Look out for labour,centre etc.

I have spoken to a few of the characters on this board about their desire to live out of the USA. I love it here. My wife and children are yanks and I will probably take citizenship next year - if I get off my lazy arse in time. I really could not imagine being happier anywhere else. Having said that, my wife is talking about going to work for the BBC in England. So maybe I will be forced back to that bitter little shit hole for a couple of years. AND before you both ask - Mc and Mark - I will be delighted to scour obscure record shops on your behalf.

my sister, billiejobodeanbobette, well she says that it's vernacular. Even spelt it out fer me.But I like to spells it vuuur-nak-yu-luuur. I jes cain figgur out wha anyone would make fun of the yoosage ov such big werds. But then, I cain figgur out wha that myke person has any point in pickin out any uther yoosage ov things and stuff like colour er labour er...
