Blondie and Precognition

I will get over it eventually of course, this Blondie fetish. But until then, I would like to mention the last line of "Picture This" off Parallel Lines, their most well-liked album, in which she yells "Get a pocket computer, try to do what you used to do, yeah!" In 1978, there was no such thing anywhere near a pocket computer. So what the hell was she on about??! Sure, Kraftwerk did "Pocket Calculator" in the early 80's, but it's not the same at all, is it?

Now, last thing I'll say is anyone who hasn't seen the picture of Debbie Harry on the back of the Parellel Lines CD is really missing something. Surely those fashion-minded would appreciate her bizarre fashion statement (which defies words): double diamond shaped minidress, showing triangular shapes of her midriff, with thigh-high boots or stockings. But even those not fashion-minded but merely attracted to women would feel a quickened pulse at the sight of this picture: it's truly a vision of loveliness.

Did I mention the music? "One Way Or Another" is still great, even if I've heard it on the radio way too many times.

In conclusion I want to say that although I've never tried heroin, nor am I at all interested in trying heroin, I must confess that to hear Blondie's "Rapture", now, today, considering I first bought the 45 of it when I was...9 years old...When I hear it now I think "this is what it must feel like to be on heroin."

Being hungover is when...

you wonder what time it is, look for a clock on the wall, then realize you're holding your watch in your hand...

you almost drop your sock in the toilet

This is really weird. I decided to delete this thread and start over, but it won't let me delete either of the first two posts. It WILL let me delete the hungover post, though. Why?

Oh now I get it. It only lets you delete the last post you wrote.

This board rocks. But does anybody get a big H or any other characters pop up when they click on a link?

What's up with that?

Also for the record I am hungover too. Anyone for tennis? It's supposed to be 72 degrees today in Seattle. That would be a record I think.

Okay I found the error in the giant links appearing.

I had the font size at 121 pixels instead of 12 pixels.

I am listening to the Vines.

It's amazing to me that kids listen to the nu-metal crap and don't go crazy for this stuff.

Fuck them, I love it.

Ha ha! Yeah I wondered what the deal with those giant letters was, but I figured it was intended.

Of course I was drunk, H. But yes, they are just as good sober.

By next weekend, I should have the latest brand spanking new Blondie disc sadly ONLY out in the UK and Europe, no U.S. release in sight!!!!!!!! :(

But also I will have their disc before that (few years old) upon which I already like one song, and also I will have their 1977 second album Plastic Letters, which not only includes this mysterious song "I'm On E" that McC speaks of, but it also includes the amazing 1975 non-disco version of "Heart Of Glass", called "Once I Had A Love," which is guitar-only and defies my attempt at words.

In my defense, I must explain that this is not a normal state of mind for me. I feel a smidgeon the way I did when I first discovered the Beatles in 4th grade...by that I mean POP HYSTERIA...all those UK folks and bands who mentioned and were inspired by Blondie...yet I never understood until now. They were so much more successful across the water than they were here.

The moment will pass, but until then...I'm spellbound.

And does anyone really care that Blondie covered T-Rex's
"Bang A Gong"? Nah, didn't think so...

My theory is if they'd ever got together with Iggy Pop the sparks would have flown and a whole new universe would have been created.

Mark that non disco version of Heart of Glass is some of the best Blondie I've evere heard. Thanks. What is it on?

I'm so glad you liked it, McC! At the time I was playing it over and over awhile back I kept thinking how much I wished you and other Paxacidans could hear it.

But this is why I worry about you sometimes, McC, in your loveable vinyl fixation, because of course, there are some things you just can't get on vinyl, or get them very easily. It was cool you managed to find their cover of "Ring Of Fire" on vinyl, though. Anyway, the 1975 non-disco version of "Once I Had A Love" (a.k.a. "Heart Of Glass) is available as a bonus track on the Plastic Letters CD, although to be fair, I'm almost positive it's available on at least one Blondie vinyl bootleg (I could look it up if you like). That song is part of a total of 7 songs that comprised their very first demo from 1975, and as a whole, they really are spectacular, those songs. There's also a 1978 version of the song as an extra track on the Parallel Lines CD, which is closer to disco, but still quite different from the version of "Heart Of Glass" that everyone is familiar with.

Also, did you like the Can song, "I Want More"? I can easily see why, with your tastes, you probably wouldn't like Can as much as I do, but that was their one kindof "disco moment in the spotlight of commerciality", and when I first heard it I thought it sounded like a McC kind of song, i.e. something you'd like.
