to sarah:

i agree we all should do whatever we can to minimize our individual contribution to global warming. i walk when i can, i drive my vespa when walking is not practical, i take the train when the vespa is not practical, i try never to fly. and i am a vegetarian, more or less, which means that i have el...

highly interesting information tommy, thanks. personally i also do not trust nuclear energy operators, no matter where. i think they do not deserve to handle a technology that has the potential to turn a landscape into a wasteland for a few thousand years. i also agree with your point that nuclear e...

i looked into the fusco photo essay about three weeks ago but after about fifteen pictures i had to stop -- it was too gruesome for me. the image of those kids in constant pain who spend all day rolling over the floor is one i will probably never forget. but i agree the essay is brilliant. does this...

what a stinker! i went to see this new movie with the best intentions. what could go wrong? it was an austrian-british co-production about an artist i like who painted sexy pictures, and it starred john malkovitch. well, everything went wrong. perhaps the director thought that in portraying an artis...

four years in the making and then nobody shows up. what a bummer, what bums. oh well. as a businessmen i say, in such cases: it's ok; these things happen. (to my japanese business partners i would say: i understand your situation). but this is not business, this is friendship. and it's certainly tou...

oh man, what a concert. i have been to lots of good shows in the past few months but only two have been memorable. (firstly, elvis costello who is an old fart but was just spectacular live -- a 150 minute tour de force.) secondly, b&s. who is like them? do you know an 8 piece band of young nerds...

the guardian, on today's germany

"Strangers in a strange land When Luke Harding and his family moved to Germany two years ago, they expected to find a cleaner, more efficient version of Britain. What they got was a country ruled by the old, for the old - but with great trains, great hospitals and a rather charming love of nudi...

marky, sarah, everybody else: i appreciate your warm comments on my odd thoughts. you motivate me to continue on with this bloggish, stream-of-consciousness, regardless-of-embarassment thread. and please continue to give me your feedback on whatever you think, in fact whatever comes to mind, be it C...

Seeking Jesus

this morning between awakening and coffee, i thought of a movie i had seen on tv roundabout 20 years ago: Cercasi Gesù, which I googled to be " (1982) un film di Luigi Comencini con Fernando Rey, Maria Schneider". i remember it as a brilliant tragic-comedy about a modern-day jesus who is ...

if religious imagery excites you then may i suggest some nun-and-monk porno. sorry just joking. (here's hoping you are not as easily offended as marky). no really, the movie has some really unpleasant and graphic self-flagellation scenes which certainly did not get me off. religious as such but cree...

da vinci code, and other films dealing with religion

the da vinci code is most definately not da bomb. it is a boring piece of shit! who would have thought that tom hanks could look both bored and boring for over two hours? and that he could share a whole movie with audrey tatou without creating the least bit of erotic suspense? the movie is pedestria...

well as it is kickin' you'll be with family but there are four weeks after that to come.

the world cup may be every four years but i expect it will not again be in germany during our lifetime. so what's holding you back, money -- even after sloth offered to organize your flight finances?

the teams

ok everybody say what they like about their favorite teams. 22 days 17 hours to kickoff. i like my home team but particularly enjoy japan, trinidad/tobago, brazil, and whatnot. with stress on whatnot. anybody willing to wager, i say brazil wins the finals, boring person that i am.
